This is it! I’m so glad to see how you teach folks to use their crockpots. Given how hot it’s been it’s a great way to make a meal without heating up the kitchen. Tip for folks if you cook a ham over the holidays keep your ham shank in the freezer and you’ll have it available to make your beans. Great job AB!

For anybody that grew up in the rural south of the 50s and 60s, this is what sustained us. This recipe brings back so many memories of picking blacked eyed peas in the garden, shelling them in front of the TV with a Dizzy Dean/Pee Wee Reese called baseball game on, helping in the kitchen in the afternoon, and then enjoying the peas and cornbread for supper. Sometimes combined with southern fried chicken or slice of ham. I still grow/pick/and enjoy black eyed or pink eye/purple hull peas to this day using the techniques demonstrated in this video. 😋😋😋

Thank God for my crockpot. Since the heat has been terrible in Georgia, my crockpot has become my best friend. I just decide on my meals for the week and prepare it in my crockpot. I don't have to worry about standing over a hot stove and making the house warmer on those extra hot 3 digit days when the air conditioner is working overtime. By the way, I use a variety of smoked meats for seasoning. I use smoked pig tails, smoked turkey and also smoked ham hicks with a little Mrs Dash and sometimes, chopped onion. We have to use wisdom when it comes to cooking and doing laundry on these super hot days. Thank you for such great ole fashioned recipes that's super delicious. 🍴 😋 😋

South Carolina native here... grew up in the ghetto in Columbia. I have had a lot of black eyed peas from the south... your recipe is pretty much the real deal. I have seen a LOT of people who just don't know how to cook this stuff...your collard greens and these black-eyed peas hit it. If you want to try a little bit of low-country flair, dice a raw onion and throw it on top of your bowl of beans. Try with with the raw onions ;) I am just to where you throw it in th ecrock pot...curious to see how you finish these. :)

You normally don't have to add anything to make a gravy with black eyed peas. The key is cooking them long and slow, and stirring them. As the peas soften it makes its own gravy. I also add a couple of bay leaves to them. Those look so good, I never thought about cooking them in a crock pot.
@icanary64 Жыл бұрын
I add bay leaves too.
