Nice video! I was looking online a few weeks ago for pop up cleats and this vid popped up. I didn’t know they made round cleats. I ordered four. I modified them so that if you push Down on them they pop up. (Like a cabinet door on a boat or RV) I glassed in a piece of coosa board underneath to give a bit more thickness to the fiberglass. Then I recessed the cleat into the deck to make it flush when closed. Works great and looks super clean.

That sounds SIC! Sounds like you made it truly flush mount. I love them just how they are but that modification sounds worth it for sure! Well done

Thanks for that. My Crownline has cleats, but I feel life they are in the wrong place for fenders. Plus, when you come in to dock and you’ve got fenders on, it reduces the space you’ve got to tie off. My only concern with this design, is the circlip/spring setup. I’m wondering about the longevity.

I have used these spring loaded cleats for about a year now. And I use them every time I go out. I installed a second one near the stern because I love it so much. They operate and have the same positive, not sloppy action they had when they were new. The product seems quality. I don’t see that spring wearing out anytime soon. I can only vouch for a year but this has made my docking life so much better. My fenders are in the perfect spot and they look clean and are not an added hazard to hit yourself on if you know what I mean. One piece of advice. Don’t deploy your fenders until you are off the trailer if your trailer has guides. I made that mistake and with the new fender placement i destroyed a fender but the cleat remained. It was so bad I thought it would have ripped the cleat right out but it didn’t even phase it. But the fender was lost. At least check for clearance. Lol. It’s an easy install.

Careful, the way the line is hanging looks like your gel coat will be scratch and dulled in that area.

Have you had any issues with the loop slipping off? Seems like with some upward motion on a fender it would come right off and lose a fender

Never had a problem with that. I absolutely love them. They are solid and I have a lot of faith in them.

Your boat not having cleats is the issue with the dealer ordering that way or the original customer ordered the boat without. It has ZERO to do with Malibu. When and if you order a new boat you’ll find cleats are options from none, 1pr, 2pr, and even 3pr.

Hard to believe any manufacturer would have cleats as an option. I would understand pop up cleats as an upgrade from standard ones but not including any is crazy. Even with cleats it can be a pain to tie off dock lines and the fenders to one cleats so this add on (or phender pro) is nice
