Did you replace the rings. I’m doing a refresh on my engine wondering if I can get away with using old rings. Motor ran great but timing chain needed replaced so just tore down motor to double check things

That's what I did. Well, I would just fill the chambers with it, and brush it on. Then rinse it. Makes easy work of carbon.

@cmattdabrat
@cmattdabrat Жыл бұрын
Leave then in so they'll get cleaned up, and you can rotate them between dips to help clean the rings lands. Pull the rings afterwards to make sure you got rid of all the carbon.

Did you give them a light scrub after 15 minutes or so? It's not just magically going to wipe off but will slowly eat away at it.

yes, I ended up taking them to a machine shop. The carbon was extremely tenacious and repeated soaking and scrubbing with a scotchbrite cloth had no effect.@@cmattdabrat

Crazy. This stuff in Canada to try to find is 75-$125 😐👎🏼 So difficult building cars here, there is next to zero parts manufacturers, shipping / import fees are insane, and our dollar is worth 3/4 of the US dollar. Plus there’s usually free shipping (on any of the sites I use) within the 48 states I have found buying my parts from Aus/UK are better deals and just waiting for the longer shipping times

This is most definitely not carbon, this is very slight oil staining. Carbon is a solid crust that needs to be scraped off with a chisel.
@cmattdabrat
@cmattdabrat Жыл бұрын
I'll agree with you about the crust. Find a part that has carbon build up. Toss it in a can of Chem dip for 15-30 minutes. Scrub it. After a few dips, the carbon comes right off. I've done this with plenty of car parts that had carbon build up. Eats it right up.
@oo0Spyder0oo

That’s not carbon build up, that’s just stain. Real crusty carbon pistons and heads are not shown here.
