No, not really. You’re supposed to use 2 hands, long swords have the capability to thrust aswell but that’s not why. If he actually generated enough power he would have been able to cut it, but he barely sliced and he did it with one hand. Also longsword is better mostly for the cross guard on it.

I disagree, a katana would likely be riskier to stab with due to its curved and fragile nature, longswords tent to bend and flex a little, plus with 2 hands you can have some crazy speed with the longsword using leverage on the handle.
