I'm a relative novice at building farms and here are all the things I wish I had known before starting this build. These things would have saved me *many* hours of frustration and wasted work. 1. _The orientation of the zombie pods is crucial._ Pause the video at 1:33 and take a screenshot. Relative to that orientation, the zombie pods need to be at the top and bottom, *not* the left/right. They should line up with with two of the pillows on each of the villager pods. This mistake cost me many hours, and the video is not very clear that it matters. 2. _You absolutely need an external villager breeder._ I wrongfully assumed I could send two villagers up the water column onto the platform, and then feed them and because they could see all 12 beds they would breed. This has no hope of working, because villagers need to see two air blocks above beds to make them willing to breed. Don't even think about trying to temporarily remove the blocks above the beds for the purposes of breeding. The villagers -- especially the kids jumping on the beds -- will fall off and take damage or die. You would need to build a large containing wall around the pods for this to work and it's a major pain. Just search for a simple villager breeder, it's much easier. I used one from LogicalGeekBoy. 3. _The ground around the base matters._ If you have blocks protruding up above the ground level, as will happen if you build this on natural terrain that hasn't been completely leveled, then the iron golems will see that as valid space to spawn and will spawn on the ground and not in the water stream that takes them to be killed. Once there are golems visible, the spawning is interrupted because the villagers see the golem and won't spawn another. If you have any golems wandering around anywhere, the farm won't work and you need to kill them and fix the problem. To make the ground level non-spawnable, go to the block under the center of the villager pods, and then walk outwards 8 blocks in X and 8 blocks in Z. All of that included perimeter area has to be flattened so that it's at or below the Y level that you started with in the very center. (To be clear, this means more than the 15x15 footprint of the tower.) I think bottom-half slabs can be used to make blocks non-spawnable for the golems, too. I don't think glass will work. Any machinery or support structures you build at the base which rises above the starting ground level needs to be slabbed off as well for the same reason. 4. _The area above the frames of the portals needs to be filled in or bottom-slabbed._ This is similar to #3. Golems that spawn anywhere but in the water stream will break the farm. If you have any wandering around, they must be killed and the root cause addressed. Note: you can shoot a golem with a bow and arrow from a long distance and they won't be able to figure out where it's coming from to chase you. You could also use leads and move them far away from the area, and tie them at a fencepost. 5. _Villager pathfinding is hell._ I used a minecart to deliver villagers from the breeding area to the central water column. Some of them seemed to become randomly attached to the beds in the breeder and refused to attach to the beds in the golem farm pods. At night they would just stare off into the distance trying to get to a bed that they have no chance of reaching, instead of finding the beds in easy reach. To fix this you just have to nudge them around to interrupt their pathing and give them some time (10-20 seconds.) They will eventually get the green sparkle particle effects and go to their beds. It's very frustrating because some villagers take to the beds instantly and some don't. If you send too many villagers up the column and more than a couple do not take to their new beds, you create traffic jams which causes villagers to fall off the paths to their death. Until you have the hang of it, I recommend filling the pods very carefully. Block off all but one pod, send the villagers up one by one, and make sure they latch on to a bed with green particles before sending the next one. Villagers are incredibly stupid and will fall and die if you're not careful with them. Even if they live, it's a pain to chase them down and contain them in a boat so that they can be sent up again. 6. _Building vertically is hard for a newbie._ I had scaffolding (highly recommended) and elytra and it was still awkward. I guess if you're experienced it's no big deal, but it looks a lot easier in creative mode. If you can find a jungle biome to get bamboo for scaffolding, it's highly recommended before starting the build. (There's a biome finder at chunkbase dot com that works well and is a simple web app.) Building over water might be good as you can jump down. 7. _Once they're in their pods, it's hard to count the number of villagers during the day._ This is because they all stand in the same center block area, the only place they can fit. It's therefore hard to impossible to tell how many villagers you've installed in the pod during the day. The only reliable way is to wait for night and count how many are sleeping, which can mean a lot of waiting if you're not organized. Keep careful notes of how many villagers you've put in each pod, because you must fill every bed for the farm to work. 8. _While you are installing the zombies in thier pods, block the view of the villagers._ You can do this by putting temporary blocks on the left and right of the zombie pods, blocking the eyelines of the villagers. Remember that their eyelines change when they are in bed and when they are standing, and you have to block both so you need 2 blocks per side. This will prevent them from summoning golems until you are ready to activate the farm and have everything installed (flowing water, portals lit, etc.) Again, if they summon a golem and the farm is not ready, the golem will wander around not being killed and will break the farm, requiring that you kill them. It's much easier to keep the villager sight lines blocked until you have verified that everything is setup correctly and ready for action. (See 12:55 in the video for the note about breaking the glass there too.) 9. _Everything matters._ This farm relies on the specific action of the zombie jumping up and down on the bubble column created by the soul sand, and the heights of the slabs containing him. This causes him to repeatedly go in and out of the eyeline of the villagers, both when standing and sleeping, which is essential for them to keep respawning new golems. If you don't use soul sand, or you don't align the slabs the way it's shown in the video, it will not work. You have to build it exactly as it is in the video. After fixing all my newbie mistakes, this farm creates an incredible amount of iron. It's almost too much. I built the full 16 pod version and I have thousands of iron blocks after just a short afk period. It's really very efficient. Just hang in there and debug problems as they arise, and you will be rewarded with a great farm.

If your portals aren't linking up properly, for instance your 4 golem portals teleport you to the dropper portal, then it's most likely due to the y level. I would suggest building the 2 portals in the nether at the same level, but use a dropper item elevator to dispense the items into the portal. gl :D

just finished building a 5 pod one in my hardcore world. i really underestimated how tedious it would be to get zombies and villagers in place. but here is how i did it. first i built the entire thing and also the nether side. to get the zombies i first collected zombies that were able to pick up items and gave them a helmet so they wouldn't burn in the day.(durability of helmet goes down during day so watch out) this way i could collect zombies in the night and place them in their chamber during the day. afterwards i blocked their line of sight with the villager chambers so no golems could spawn outside the farm. For the villagers i used a breeder from logicalgeekboy that i had already built prior to this build and placed the villagers directly into the chambers using activator rails without breaking the chambers. (remove blocks next to their chamber so they can't wake up on those) then i broke all the rails and scaffolding before opening the line of sight of the zombies. now the farm is working like a charm and i have to say it was worth the work.

Hey there! First off, thanks for being smart enough to make something like this! However, I know you said that you have addressed the portal linking issue in the comments, but I have been searching for hours and cannot find an answer to my problem. I just need clarification on the 1/8 rule. When you are standing in the overworld and looking at the first portal you made, your cords are X: 10.503 Y: 65.000 Z: 35.930 So if we take 1/8 of each, that would be X: 1.31 Y: 8.125 Z: 4.491 Which is not where the portal is when you are looking at the bottom obsidian block in the nether. So then I was like okay, that’s not what he’s probably looking at in the coordinates section cause that doesn’t make any sense. So now im acting like a crazy person trying to see where you see 1/8 of anything, and the only place I see that is to the right, near the bottom that says “Sound” and then 1/8. Which my own portal does, but still refuses to link up after I have placed the 2nd portal in the nether that sends you back to the overworld through the initial portal. I know I’m probably not seeing something but I swear I’m not dumb I’m average 🥺😂😅

Hey man, incredible iron farm. Is there any in-game mechanic preventing me from doing more than 4 layers? Additionally, is it possible to have two towers in loaded chunks 32 blocks apart so they don't count as being part of the same village? Thanks!
@MineTheFab3 жыл бұрын
Hi n8mo :-) Nope. Go right ahead! Both options should not cause problems. Only thing is the placement of the nether portal ... It might be tricky to get ALL portals in all heights to connect to the same portal in the nether ... Depending on whether or not you have other portals nearby.

Just got a doubt about "9 blocks above the portal". If for example the top obsidian of my first layer portal is at Y=74 (Targeted block in F3), so the next layer base blocks (0:23) would be at Y = 83, right ? Confused because in some videos "above" refers to leaving a space of (in this case) 9 blocks to continue building, while in others is to start at the ninth block counted. Thanks in advance.
@MineTheFab5 ай бұрын
Hi 😊 In This case its 9 blocks of air from the top of the portal to the bottom of the next one (it’s actually 16 blocks between the villagers that’s important- the 9 blocks is just a way to convey that)

at start i went 9 up and started you need a 9 block gap and start on 10th, the 4 ig portals were leading to the item return portal so i move this portal to the same y level as the other portals using a dropper elevator and it linked correctly. other than this amazing farm havent even finished putting villagers in the first floor and is allready giving me lots of iron

hey so i tried to add another layer but it seems that when I light up the portals on the 2nd floor/module the iron + poppys begin to come out of the top portal instead of the one below, I've tried to increase the distance between the levels and yet no success, if you faced this problem in the past could you help me out? and the portals in the nether are at the same y-axis (items are being transported out into the overworld via a dropper elevator) but it seems to still malfunction.
Just built half of it (2 pods full and the whole nether portal system) it works like a charm already have 64 iron which is amazing. Takes a long time to build though and my villagers wouldnt breed so im having to bring them over by boat from my breeder other than that def worth the time

If you're running into an issue where farm stops producing anything after one day/night cycle and are running 1.20.2 Java, read on. Everything is built, villagers and zombie are in place, farm starts to produce... Until it doesn't. This happened consistently after a single day/night cycle. The first night villagers would try sleeping then wake up seeing the zombie. Come day, i broke the center glass glass block over pillow having zombie... Farm continued to produce during the day. Come the next night cycle however, everything stopped. Villagers would not sleep. They just stood there in the middle of the pod doing nothing. Come day, still nothing. To get things going again, at night, replace center block over pillow facing zombie. Villagers immediately started to sleep and golems started to spawn again. Keeping the center blocks in place would keep the farm going, but only at night. I was about to give up on this farm, but as luck would have it i broke the wrong block allowing the villagers to move across two blocks. This immediately started the farm back up. I made the same change to the other three pods. Sure enough farm started running on all cylinders day and night. I hope this helps someone else.

I've finally decided to build this in my HC world, but man this is a lot of work. I'm building the full 16 pod design, and after 3 days building now its almost ready, I just need to put the zombies in their places. With only 1 zombie in place (that just spawned in the right spot, got extremely lucky just had to nametag him) it already made like 4 and half stacks of iron ingots in 4 in-game days. I can't wait to see this thing fully operational. I almost died building this thing cause I forgot to put the killing mechanism in the Nether before putting the villagers on the pods, so when I went through the portal the killing chamber was packed with golems and I was pushed in there. No way of getting out, I tried to mine the side walls only to hit one of the golems, that know wanted to kill me, but he pushed me against the other wall and couldn't hit me. Any wrong move and I was done. Luckily for me I remembered I got there in the first place to put down the killing mechanism, so I chugged my fire res potion, poured the lava bucket down and watched as all the golems burned to death. So that was scary. Anyways, I'm trying to figure out now the best way to get the zombies in their places, I was thinking of building some platform a few blocks away and wait for monsters to spawn there, nametag the zombies and get a minecart rail all the way to the pods, but that I'll take another whole day of work. If anyone got any better methods please let me know.
@IDyn4m1CI3 жыл бұрын
Alright, finally got this done today, its now fully operational. I almost lost my shit trying to get the zombies in their respective spots, but after a lot of trial and error I did it. I gotta say, this thing is awesome. It's completely unethical, I just need to AFK for a few hours and I'll have more iron than I'll ever use in my survival world. Never need to go mining for iron again. Thanks for sharing this design and for making this tutorial man!

@MineTheFab3 жыл бұрын
Hi ReeToo 😊 It has. Several times. The farm is designed with 4 layers but people tend to build only one so the golems aren’t pushed in the lava so fast. As long as it is only in the nether portal it does not, however, reduce the rates the golems are still “gone” for the villagers. But there’s a couple of things you can try: Ie putting a mob in across from the portal and put open trapdoors on both sides of the killing area. Or place armor stands in the portal from the over world side.
