Great video, thank you for the simple walkthrough. Wanted to add for anyone having issues connecting during initial setup, you have to allow the LG app precise location access on IOS for it to connect the first time do perform the initial setup. After that you can disable the location access (which should not be needed by an app like this).

This is the best video about connecting LG ThinQ App and Device/Appliances. Thank you for sharing this. But its so weird that LG uses a WiFi for that initial setup. With all these smart home technologies, they could have used bluetooth, but I believe they just wanted to reuse the WiFi module/chip to perform the initial setup.

TIP: If you press and hold the WIFI, and the APP does not detect your appliance, unplug the appliance for 2 minutes and plug it back in. Repeat the sync steps and it will detect your product.

These instruction did not work well for me, which is very upsetting after seeing so many others work well for them. I hold the wifi logo for 3 secs and nothing happens. In the app it doesn’t show up my front load washer. I unplugged the appliance as well for 2 mins turned it back on and still cannot connect

This video is great, but unless I missed it- Brandon doesn't specifically state to hold one finger on the play/ pause button while holding another over the button that reads, 'Delay Wash/ *wifi.' When I watched the video a second time, I noticed he was holding his hand awkwardly over the controls and that's what led to me giving it a shot and being successful with it. Thanks, Brandon!

This was perfect! THANK YOU!!! Mine was only slightly different in that the washer automatically switched my wifi from my home one to it's own without me having to enter any passwords except my own password when it wanted to connect to my home network. Other than that difference, this walked me through it SO EASILY! I have the exact same washer as yours and so far absolutely LOVE IT. LG is a fantastic brand for washing machines and dryers. We bought our first pair of LG HE washer/dryer in 2007 and the washer JUST finally "died" (the cost of repair was almost as much as buying this new one) but the dryer from 2007 is still going strong! We just make sure to keep the vent ducts cleaned out and once every few months or so, we hand wash the lint catcher screen to remove any buildup of residue from using dryer sheets. Hopefully we won't need to replace it for at least a couple more years but when the time comes, we know what brand we're getting! (Made sure to click that like button for ya!)

Thanks! I'd been struggling a bit and found your very helpful video. I didn't buy this washer for the WiFi functionality, but after a few months of use, figured I'd add it to my network of IoT devices to see how (or if) it worked. LG didn't make the setup process particularly user-friendly and it turns out that functionality within the ThinQ app is extremely limited and klugy. Before I invested the time in setup, I probably should have revisited the question that formed in my head when I bought it, "How much useful functionality can remote control add to a clothes washer?" Looks like the answer is, "Very little." If you've found gems within the app that make it worth using on a regular basis, a follow-up video would be great! In any case, nice job on a how-to video that's straight-forward and well presented! Subscribed!

Greg, I wondered the same actually. I have found that having a real-time countdown of time and then message that the load is done has been nice. I don't lose time by forgetting for 45 minutes that the wash is done. Thus, I can get more loads done faster. I know... just set a countdown timer or whatever. I know. The app is nice for that though.

ty for this guide! 3 things tripped me up :D - when you hold the wifi button for 3 seconds i thought yur small finger was holding the pause button but yur holding the touch panel button wit yur first finger - i had to disconnect vpn on my phone for it to connect with the washer - the lg app says to press the remote start button but as you instruct it needs to be held for 3 seconds to activate

i’ve got the same washer as you and i do all the steps correctly with no problem from the app and then at the final part it says “failed to connect” and the wifi led never stops blinking :( don’t know how to fix it

I have this washer and dryer and they are freakin awesome. The smart thing seems a bit lacking tho, I mean, wouldn’t it be cool if the washing machine communicated with the dryer in such a way that they dryers settings would correspond with its incoming load? Ie, washer is set to towels, therefore the dryer automatically sets itself to towel mode.

may or may not be what you're referring to, but this is straight out of my dryer's manual: Smart Pairing This function automatically selects the best cycle and settings for the dryer based on usage information from the most recently completed wash cycle. NOTE • If the Smart Pairing function is enabled in the LG SmartThinQ app, when you turn on the dryer after using the washer, the recommended dryer cycle is automatically set. • To use this function, both the washer and dryer must be connected to Wi-Fi.

I couldn't find instructions for this setup anywhere in the documentation. This is ridiculous. I've had my washer for 2 weeks and haven't been able to set it up, because they've made it unnecessarily complicated with absolutely no guidance. To make things worse, the app doesn't work half the time, apparently since the last update. Much appreciate your taking the time to do this video. Once my current load is done, I'll try it out.

Thanks for the video. Just got an LG top loading washer and had to contact LG tech support to make the connection. Why in the world they didn't just tell you in the manual that the washer's wifi pw is the last 4 digits twice is beyond me. I did get connected and I can monitor the progress of the wash, and it sends a notification when the cycle is complete, which is helpful. You also have to read a barcode to get more detailed info about what each cycle is, etc.

I have a question about an LG wm4000hba washer. It's connected via my home network successfully and also thru the thinq app, however, sometimes the wifi icon does not light up on the panel but I can monitor the activity in the thinq app. My matching dryer wifi icon is always lite when the unit is turned on like I would think it should. I contacted LG tech support and they replied with this is normal for the wifi icon to sometimes not be lite as long as it's showing connected in the thinq app? I just found this odd that's this only happens to my washer only? Is this normal?

Just bought a new pair. Why can you not remote start from the app without holding down the Remote Start button? Like if I went to bed and wanted to run the dryer when I wake up. Does the Remote Start button need pressed beforehand? Kind of defeats the purpose of wifi/app if so.

Just bought LG washer & dryer, the remote starting washer seems to be a gimmick to me, cannot think I would have loaded the laundry, added detergent, turned on the power of washer and somehow remote start it. Just hope the washer quality is good.

The ThinQ wont work with my LW8017ERSM window A/C. I called LG and they escalated my issue to another department and they were supposed to call me back but never did. NOT an LG fan.

First make sure you have proper Wifi signal where your device is located. There are free apps for phone and laptops to do so. If the issue is not the signal, contact LG for a warranty issue. Companies don't like devices to be sent back for warranty issues because it costs them a lot of money... they'll be more cooperative than when you just call for a regular support issue.
