Hello City Prepping, thank you for creating this video about the minimum fuel cooker. Due to being in a wheelchair, I'll never be able to cook outside. You show a picture in this video of what looks like a Sterno type heat source under a metal framework. I've heard that using Sterno indoors is considered relatively safe, whereas a propane tank on a camp stove is NOT considered safe indoors, due to carbon monoxide. What I was wondering is, could you post a link for the metal frame and the type of cooking source you had momentarily displayed during this video? I'm not a full-on prepper, mainly because I simply can't be physically, so I don't know all these things already! I think that if I could get this type of setup for indoors, I would definitely buy the product you're reviewing in this video. Thank you for your help.

Looks like something that could be useful year-round, just to keep the bills down. The stew you made looks good, but I'd suggest making an actual roux at the beginning of the cooking process, when you're sauteeing the bacon and onion, rather than just adding a slurry of flour and water. With a roux, the flour is heated in only oil, no water at all, to toast the flour particles. It improves the flavor and prevents lumping and sticking. Once the roux is the color you want, then you add the rest of the veggies and the liquid ingredients. Try it next time,

I use to go grocery shopping to buy my favorite things, and look for new ones. Now when I go, all I can think of what else is missing? I search for subtle signs of trouble. I would have to say, that uncertainty coupled with the anticipation of possible trouble on the horizon leaves a person a little bit wore out. I pray that one day, we all just end up making a big donating to the local food bank and that this too shall pass! Thank you City Prepping for keeping us focused. -G

Love the idea of combining this with the Kelly Kettle. Great combo. Stew tip - I use Quaker quick grits to thicken stews, soups, chili etc. A little goes a long way as they absorb a lot of moisture. You just have to be patient and let them simmer until they are fully cooked/hydrated and they will be almost inperceptible. Great for red Chile con Carne.

When things were at their very worst: 2 Suns, Cross in the sky, 2 comets will collide = don`t be afraid - repent, accept Lord`s Hand of Mercy. Scientists will say it was a global illusion. Beware - Jesus will never walk in flesh again. After WW3 - rise of the “ man of peace“ from the East = Antichrist - the most powerful, popular, charismatic and influential leader of all time. Many miracles will be attributed to him. He will imitate Jesus in every conceivable way. Don`t trust „pope“ Francis = the False Prophet - will seem to rise from the dead - will unite all Christian Churches and all Religions as one. One World Religion = the seat of the Antichrist. Benedict XVI is the last true pope - will be accused of a crime of which he is totally innocent. What I like about this gadget is that it's sealed, so I can use this to cook on top of a trash fire. You wouldn't want to put your steaks on a rack over your garbage fire, but with this thing, you can. Waste not, want not... even when you burn trash. You could be using that fire to make a mean BBQ or pot roast. Great review, as always. ;)

This is a brilliant idea. I literally just bought a small pressure cooker, and a large Instant pot, because I realised I was about to roll into a fuel and energy crisis sitting on literally sacks of dried beans, lentils and rice. That stuff requires A LOT of boiling, and in a conventional pot, that means a lot of energy usage. Given the full spectrum of the problems we are about to face, any prepping advice that reduces energy consumption is worth knowing. (I might have to treat myself to one of these as an early Xmas present.)

It's a viable cooking option... The tight lid thing works.. MSR have been making similar (clamped lid) pots for many years...it's how I cook basmati rice...you can cut the heat off and let the food steam. Good kit by the looks of it 👍 Gotta say City Prepping is judicious when it comes to product promotions/recommendations....I've never seen him promote any dog shit products ... 👍

After seeing your video I remembered having a 4 qt stainless steel commercial " hot pot" with a lid and clamps on the side. I'm going to drill a tiny hole in the lid and try to do the same thing. However, I'm going to click on the link and look at the deal just because you asked me to and to show you how much I appreciate your videos. And most of all, your FORESIGHT and WISDOM. Thanks again.😉

This system is a great possibility for our needs: we live in South Florida and while we had nothing this year, we have frequent hurricane strikes and can lose power for undetermined times so this system would definitely be a good choice for us.....an extra bonus if we were to need it in SHFT situation. Note when you are steaming crabs and lobster add some white vinegar to the water when you put them in,it will vary depending upon the amount you are steaming! Approximately 1 table spoon per. It does two things # 1 it prevents the meat from sticking to the shell and # 2it makes the meat taste sweeter or better. The white vinegar evaporates away and you can't taste it.

Think be good for power outages, you only need the heat to get it upto temperature, then let it slow cook, plus if had a couple, or group of people, could get a stew type food upto temperature, put them aside to cook in their own heat, you could basicaly cook several campfires worth of food on one campfire, and whilst the stews stewing, have the fire free to do other things,

"sugar free soda off taste". Sugar free sweetners in soda are perfectly safe, but many of these artificial sweetners are not approved for heating and high temperature cooking. They can break down into harmful compounds. That is why the vast majority of sugar free sweetners cannot be added to hot food or used commercially in that way.

My only question is under low heat situations, would it heat water hot enough to sanitize water, and keep it free of bacteria or viruses?
@claytonhawk8512

My advice to you would be to keep a large stainless steel pan as well as a pot for this reason, with a lid. Start the flame and add a thin layer of water so the water is spread around. It's easier for an inch of water to boil than it is 3 inches of water. It sounds silly, but try it. Then gradually add more water as it boils to get more water.

@@claytonhawk8512 Roger understand your point and method-- this is exactly how we boiled water in an army survival course in Alaska. I was simply wondering if the featured "low temp" pot could be used in an emergency.

Yes, buy the rack insert. Put some empty can in the bottom. Then add the rack set and then add a small cake pan. Finally pour in your cake batter.

Looks interesting, But I'll stick to cast iron an wood stove/ fire pit cooking for upcoming grid down... I do have a standard large pot to put on a short boil, then put in a wonder oven for slow cook like a crock pot ... Save fuel that way.

Regardless of the ceramic coating, the aluminum will still leech into the food, the coating does little to nothing to prevent that. In fact, aluminum will leech even through other metals, even if aluminum for example is a base plate to a steel pot.
