I made it as an 12yr old Beginner I just knew the basics about single croche5 and stuff and I made it this is my very first crochet and it took me around 3hrs to make :)

Rnd 3 is off by 8 stiches, at the end. You are only increasing 8 stiches, added to the 16 stitches, making the count 24. If rnd 3 repeated the previous rnd, then the count would be 32 at the end of rnd 3.

The counting seems to be wrong from rnd 3 to 4. Only 32 sts. Not 40 sts. Should I add another round to make it 40 sts?

Is it the slip stitch join and ch1 that keeps it so flat? I tried making one from another tutorial that just crocheted in the round and my mug bottom and my coffee still have a slight curve. These are so cute!

You skipped a step between two and three 😊. If you increase like round 2 says you get 24 stitches and not 32.
