I am just finishing this hat and find my self going back to reduce the size in the front of stitches to give it a smaller shape around the face , and to reduce the stitches at the bottom to give it shape. Very square shape. Really good explaining the pattern, was super easy to follow.

I finished this hat last night and while I love the pattern, it is soo big for a newborn! I have a doll I use that is the approximate size of a newborn baby and this hat just drowns it. I even went back a row on the top and sides. I think I will have to reduce the rows on the back, instead of 72 stitches stop at 48 or 60 and go from there.
@CrochetForBaby4 жыл бұрын
Interesting 🧐 what size hook and yarn did you use?
@jerrhondawhite24034 жыл бұрын
@@CrochetForBaby I used size 5.5, I think and Red Heart soft baby steps yarn.
@CrochetForBaby4 жыл бұрын
That is why your bonnet came out bigger then. You used a bigger hook with thicker yarn which means your stitches are bigger which equals a bigger size. Remember that if you want the same size as mine you have to use the same hook and yarn.

this is an adorable hat and easy to do. But I must say, this hat is bigger than a 0-3 months baby. It's more like 6-12 months. I followed the pattern to the letter, with a 4.5 hook and 3 weight baby cakes yarn. Im still workin on the alternate rows and hopefully can make decreases and see if I can shrink it to a puffy hat. Thanks tho bc it is really cute.
@CrochetForBaby3 жыл бұрын
Thank you but why did you use a 4.5mm hook? That’s why it’s so big.
@mariecaroniaplotkin52683 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness. I didn’t notice you said 3mm until I just now watched the beginning again . Don’t know how I missed it. Well explains that . If I wasn’t matching it to a sweater I made , I’d just go ahead and finish it as a spare hat . Thank you! I’ll figure something out

@@CrochetForBaby using the 3 mm crochet hook and 3 light weight yarn? Will it still work for a 0-3 month old baby?
@CrochetForBaby3 жыл бұрын
It may turn out a little small with that hook. A 4.5mm would work best I think with #3 yarn or use a 3mm and #3 yarn and make the brim circumference between 14-15in then join and dc in the round until it measures between 5-5.5in for the height then reduce in the same way as this video until the total height is 6in.

Use a smaller hook. We don’t all crochet the same so tension and gauge is key along with using the same yarn thickness and same hook size but even then sometimes size will vary.
