Thanks, that was interesting hearing your thoughts. I have a grub hoe and grape hoe on the way from Easy Digging. I notice on their site they say hoes are not meant to raise high or shift your hands during swing, so maybe that's why the design is the way it is in terms of a big swing and angle of attack to the soil

Easy Digging recommends trimming the handle so that it is between your armpit and shoulder in height. Also, if you haven't sharpened your grubbing hoes, you will definitely want to. You don't want a sharp angle like a knife; you want a wider angle like an axe. If the edge gets dull/dinged/bent really quick, just re-sharpen it with a bit wider of an angle. Mine is the Easy Digging one from your video and it's busting sod really easily. I did the sharpening, but I'm still trying to decide if I want to actually shorten that nice long handle or not!

Hi Matt. Excellent video and very helpful for choosing the right grub hoe. I was wondering, how tall are you. I have a 3# grub hoe with two head sizes with a 51" handle and it definitely feels too short for me at 5'7 1/2" My daughter at 5'3" likes it, but even she thinks it could be a bit longer. I'm leaning more towards the German hoe since it is lighter and I'm 76. Just wondering though if that 53"s is long enough.

Are you using the 4.5 or 5.5 SHW hoe, Can you also provide the exact name/item number on the website provided as I am now seeing anything called a Grub Hoe on the website with the SHW tools

On this page www.earthtools.com/garden-tools-shw/shw-eye-chopping-hoes/ it's called SHW 5.5” MId-Weight Chopper. Item 53401

How does the grape hoe compare? It sounds like it has a better angle for weeding, but is heavier… is that correct?
@WastedElephant Жыл бұрын
The grape hoe is lighter and wider. If you're cutting the tops off the weeds, it'll be faster, but it's not going to bust sod and uproot tough-rooted weeds as easily as the grub hoe.

Can you compare the dimensions and weights?

Would a scuffle hoe/ and or loop hoe work just as well?
@Thetoolmerchants2 жыл бұрын
Scuffle or loop hoe would be better for smaller weeds in softer ground.

If you use the corners of your hoe it will sink into the ground easier, particularly when grubbing grasses

roguehoe.com/ makes some; though I don't find them as ergonomic as the SHW
