I did this today 03-19-23. I experimented with many ways to achieve a chippy paint look. I watched online to do this and decided on this. Turned out great since I decided to use the same wax to finish the project. (1) I learn you have to go heavy on the wax not in AREA coverage but the part you want the paint o come off. (2) Wait till the cover paint over the wax is 100% Dry. All of it. (3) You may have to use a CHIP or disposable cheap brushes to apply the Finish paint over the wax as to not contaminate your expensive brush with the wax. I didnt use a scrapper to take off the over coat paint i used a wire (NYLON) brush on my drill to take off the excess over paint. I stained the bare wood. Coat of under color such as a pastel chalk paint. then Crackle Media, then the wax then the white over paint. Wait for it to dry they used my nylon wheel to take off the excess. In hindsight the Crackle media was probably not needed. Will post my results soon

I just found you. Trying to make a craft area in my downstairs closet. Starting with a floating desk. I love your work!!! And your videos are very helpful! Keep up the good work! Thank you so much for sharing. I’m going to try this technique on my desk top. I’ve stained it, but I don’t love the stain. Have plenty of chalk paint around so I hope it will be ok. If not, I’ll just use another piece of wood and do something else with this one. I am trying my best to start doing more things like this as I’ve found over the past couple years making things is my passion. Thanks again!

I'm wanting to do this technique over the top of cabinets that have already been stained and sealed with polycrylic. Will it work to put the wax over the polycrylic and then do the latex paint or would I need to sand off the stain and start over? The cabinets are installed so hoping to avoid starting from scratch. Thanks so much for any advice you have!

Wanting to do this for a farmhouse table. My only concern is iij want to put some coats of varnish on it afterwards. Any idea on how to get all the residual wax off without damaging the paint and stain?
@EternalHarvestDecor4 жыл бұрын
I normally use an acrylic finish. Are you doing this to the top of the table? if so, you may want to use vasaline instead of wax, its a little easier to make sure you have removed it all. If you are just doing the base I wouldnt worry too much because if more of the wax falls off later it just adds to the look of the piece, right? thats one of the reasons I love this style, when my kids kick it or bump chairs it just adds to the look! haha

What about on a large scale, say a table? Regular paint or chalk paint or what used instead of spray cans?

Just a regular latex lightly rolled with a roller.

You can also use a candle, just rub it on the wood. A lot cheaper

This is my favorite way of all of them on here which I will try on my dresser. Do I then seal the finished product like a dresser for example?
@EternalHarvestDecor4 жыл бұрын
karfox100 I do seal my pieces sometimes if I want it to be really weathered I don’t and I just let it continue to weather. You could poly or rewax the whole thing

Would you recommend this technique for something like kitchen cabinets that you would be touching often? Or does it leave a waxy feel and should only be left to projects like picture frame?
@EternalHarvestDecor4 жыл бұрын
good question, I think it would be fine if you seal it before use. I would use a polycrilic or something similar after.
@jluv4204 жыл бұрын
I've seen a video where they painted with a white semi gloss and then went back with a stain for 5-10 minutes before wiping off and it uses a lot less product. That may be your best bet for heavily used surfaces.

Here is my issue with this. After you are done applying a finish such as Lacquer or poly would be impossible with that wax on there
@EternalHarvestDecor Жыл бұрын
Yes that’s true, I usually just wax over the whole piece. Wax is a great sealer for items like this, no poly needed. However I have used poly on tables with this technique and just made sure I got all the wax removed and light sanded and then polyd it worked really well
@johanaresendiz85234 жыл бұрын
