Love it! My brother and I have been making sour corn like this for years. We find it works best after fermenting for 3-4 days, but after about 9-10 days, the pigs don’t really want to mess with it as much. We dig a hole about a foot and a half deep with post hole diggers, put some sour corn in the bottom about halfway up, then cover it with dirt, then dump the rest of the corn on top. When they find it, they’ll keep coming back for a few days for more. Works great!
@johnjohnson88955 ай бұрын
A friend and i used to ferment stuff like this with old beer and some cheap alcohol , then go out and dig a hole with a post hole shovel and pour it in. Later that night, the hogs would come and eat and dig and eat and dig until they got drunk and passed out. We would head out early the next morning, and there they would be passed out beside the hole. Pow Pow Pow

Just watched your video, very similar to a mix I make over here in Australia, Corn,molasses,yeast,red cordial,water. Very simple and effective, pretty sure it works all over main thing needed is sugar, corn and yeast
@KyleMcQuilkin22 күн бұрын
Old school, we just put corn and water in a 2 liter coke bottle, screwed the cap on tight, and put it in a dark place. The corn has plenty of natural sugars, and ferments within a couple of days without yeast. Apple corn works well, too. If you live somewhere that you can dig a hole, you can bury it up to the neck. If it's rocky, like where I am, I just toss the bottle out there. Enough gas seeps under the lid that the hogs can smell it, even when it's on tight. I usually have action within a day or so. The best part? The hogs can't steal your bait, and it works until fermentation is complete. Then, you can just dump the corn out.

Had to help empty a large outdoor freezer that had failed in the high summer heat. It had been setting for at least a few weeks before anyone noticed the smell. It was full of meat products, fruits and vegetables that had thawed, fermented and become juicy. The odor was like something from Hell. We completely filled a large roll-off dumpster with the contents and no one complained about the horrendous stink. Why?? We all smeared Vicks VapoRub under our noses and that easily masked the odor so we could focus on getting the job done. Give it a try!

Friday morning around 3:00 AM the hogs came in and ate every last bit. They kept digging and digging through the 6" hole I made until there was a trench. Try some old birthday cake mix and a 1/2 bag of cheap cat food. Mix up with some old milk out of the frig. Ready to use. Caught 26 hogs in 2 days. If you mix in vegetable oil. We've had minimal luck with strawberry. I think my brother bought a pallet of strawberry jello powder and mixed it with the corn. The raccoons loved it. He has probably a dozen cell cameras set up, and monitors them daily from a thousand miles away. There was never any sign of the hogs hitting the sites harder where we put out strawberry jello. They seem to eat what they're used to, and they kept hitting the plain old corn, and we had a little luck with molasses, but no more strawberry for us.

It will ferment slower at cold temperatures. This is basically a sour mash recipe for moonshine. I make something similar here in north georgia. The only temperature requirements is you need luke warm water ideally to start the mix with. Too hot kills the yeast, to cold kills the yeast. Also my suggestion is to order some cheap bubblers off amazon. This allows you to put the lid on completely and will also tell you when the bucket is fully fermented. The recipe i use for hogs is get a 2 pound bag of sugar, 6 packets of koolaid mix (generic is cheaper) and about half a bag of corn and 2 packets of brewers yeast. Mix the same way these guys do it. Of course add water the way these guys do as well. Let it sit until it stops bubbling.

@@stricnine69 I brew beer at home. I pitch my yeast when the wort is at 70ºF or cooler. Bubbler is a good idea. You can use a plastic tube and let the end hang in a bucket of water and get the same effect. I'll have to save my spent grain the next time I brew. I usually have close to 30lbs in my mash tank when I brew a 12 gallon batch. I can harvest the yeast and reuse it for hog bait!

Top tip for cold weather fermentation, bring the bucket inside the house. You’re welcome.

I suspecting it'll take at least a week if mixing in the dead of winter.

It definitely sours faster during hot temps, but we’ve made it in the winter Plenty of times as well.

Will chlorinated city water kill the yeast?

Not totally sure- Either way it will eventually get smelly!

Try using less yeast and some instant mash potato powder. I'm dad has real good results with it , he's down in Florida.
