GM BYD, my lawn is low on nitrogen, low phosphorus and you guessed it, low on potassium. I plan to use yardmastery 12-12-12 as my 1 April application and then follow you for the rest of the season. Appreciate the video BYD. I've been digging deep into research into the NPK. Would you not suggest fertilizers with lots of P (phosphorous) during spring and fall? I understand that ingredient helps strengthen the grass roots.

Yes they do but Phosphorus leaches out the lawn. Most lawns don’t need it. Most states ban the sell of it, kinda why you see most fertilizers in stores with zero in the middle. But a soil test will answer that question for your personal lawn.

Apply the fert when lawn gets to 40-60 percent green. If I’m not mistaken you can apply that Lesco 8 weeks apart. I personally used the YM .38 Feb 15th my next will be April 15th

Till the soil if possible, add additives like Gypsum, lime and starter fertilizer while tilling. 12-12-12 starter. Buy some seeds from GCI TURF ( tell them BYD sent you ) put seeds out and keep lawn moist until germination.

I recommend February also. This video was made after that month, it’s intended for those who haven’t apply it yet or they applied in in the nov or December at a higher rate for 6 months. Which means hit it in April but always follow what the App is recommended.

Should prolly wait to put iron and fert on it until new grass tissue is fully developed, prolly late spring early summer you wanna let the grass get fully green because if it’s not you’ll just be wasting fertilizer and iron, the grass greens up based on soil temps not fertilizer or iron. The roots need to warm up for the grass to start growing again. Scalping you’re yard helps green up faster depending on the turf type you DO NOT want to scalp zoysia, st Augustine, Carpetgrass or centipede turf types you only want to scalp Bermuda turf you’ll damage those turf types and they take forever to recover . Scalping allows the sun to warm up the soil faster because there’s not much of a turf canopy blocking the sun.
