Shou Sugi Ban.. I used the technique and whipped it down with used transmission fluid.. have built deck frames doing it.. you really need to char it pretty good but it saves money from buying treated wood and you're not having the nasty chemicals from treated wood.. the Japanese have been doing this for thousands of years without any bug or rot issues..
