Easy Ford Excursion/F Series Upgrades

It's been a couple of busy weeks on the Ford Excursion project. Lift, Wheels and Tires last week and this week a few quick and easy upgrades to follow. New Headlights, Trailer Brake Controller and USB power port. About an hour's worth of time and these have transformed the Ex into a more user friendly, safer vehicle. Those four unconnected wires are put in place by Ford for owners to add accessories. The go thru the firewall and are found in the engine bay in the large harness behind the master cylinder. I used them for auxiliary LED reverse lights and an auxiliary LED light bar up front.

Another easy upgrade is swapping the mirrors to towing mirrors off an f250. Fits perfect, looks good, and more visibility.

I own a 2001 Excursion V10, 6.8L. Awsome vehicle, runs great. You would think that with all the talent out there, that SOMEONE could just make a nice, awsome looking, modern headlight system for these vehicles which will just easily pop-in and install with NO ISSUES! I guess no one's motivated enough to do it...

Nice new look!! Perhaps down the road you should look into swapping the bulbs (high and low beams) in the new headlight assemblies with LED’s. It’ll really light up the road then!!

Yes. That’s the one thing I am not impressed with. The light output. Don’t get me wrong, it is better than stock. But will definitely look into upgrading at least the low beams. I have plans to install a light bar in the space where existing fogs are so that will help when I need High beams. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Yeah I have the same lights and living in rural alabama there are always deer crossing the road. These lights do not put out much output at all. Tried to upgrade but I have no ideal what kind of light to use to upgrade

@@mercedesbenzs600bash my spark plugs shot out like fireworks. Just be prepared and I highly recommend getting cal van inserts and installing before issues. I've spent thousands over the last 4 months. Could just be my truck but it was fun. Currently still working on it

Thank you. I will keep upgrading as I get new parts and share. I got the USB port on amazon. It’s a Ginsco dual USB outlet. Was like 9.99. Very easy and cheap to do and really comes in handy.

Excursions are really finicky with the newer style headlights, it can trigger ABS. It can also shut off the cruise control when you turn the lights on

Yes, I have heard the same. I made sure to look at the forums on Facebook before I did the upgrade for these specific ones. These along with the wiring harness I purchased seemed to not have those issues. And I did not have those issues after install. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Yea It trigger my abs light to stay on for like 30 minutes then it went away haven’t had problems since then..

I installed the same brake controller, Tekonsha on my excursion and I love it. I heard it was very important to orient it to align with front and back of vehicle. I pull mine when not in use as they are not cheap and unplug easy. I think they do not power down either if I remember correctly.

You figure out the ABS light? I have an issue with mine as well as a random pulsing from my electrical system and you're making me think maybe a bad ground in the headlights? My batteries are about 2 years old, I have an oversized alternator and alternator grounding cable upgrade from FICM Repair. It seems the problem was masked due to the fact it came back a year later. I plan to contact them, they are super helpful and don't mind, soon just was curious what you found out. Thanks again

My ABS light issue was low voltage. Once I ran for a day or so with the new alternator, the light went off. I agree with you, sounds like a ground issue. Yes, FICM guys are awesome and so knowledgeable about our trucks. Thanks for watching.

It turned out the ABS light and some of the other issues came from a bad alternator. I had a follow up video where I installed a better one and better wiring. Solved everything. Lights were not that expensive. Got on Amazon. I want to say around 200.00. Thanks for watching and commenting!!!

Thanks for watching and commenting. On the USB LED, it never went off. The brake controller would turn off after 10 minutes but the USB never did. Never seemed to drain the battery though. I just put the cover on it when not in use to keep it from lighting up the cab at night.

The cigarette lighter is always powered on from the factory. Amazon sells USB outlets with incorporated on/off switches if you really want to turn it off.

I know I'm late here but the reason you don't want to touch the bulbs with your fingers is because the oil from your fingers will make the light die sooner

I would say they are definitely better than stock but not as good as I expected. Others have commented that you can change out the bulbs in these to brighter led bulbs and it really helps. Might do that in the future. But again, they are brighter than the stock lights so a good upgrade.

I got mine on Facebook Marketplace and had to adapt it a little to fit. Took the 3rd seat out and it is barely short enough for my rear captain chairs to lock into place. Bed Box is the brand and it was from www.hmfinc.com. It looks like they still make them under another website www.truck-tool-box.com/truck-bed-toolbox. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

Yes, it was a voltage issue with my alternator dying. It was just a coincidence that it popped up when I did the headlight swap. Changed out the alternator in the next video after this one and all worked great. Thanks for watching.

Please tell me your not one of those that keep their fog lights on all the time. It aimed low for fog and doesn’t help you see farther it just blinds on coming traffic. Also against driving regulations to run it in no fog conditions that no one seems to remember.

I got mine in Sept 2004. Yes 9ne of the last ones off the assembly line so it had to be a 6.0 4x4 Eddie Bauer is what they had for 50k so it's what I got a day before hurricane Ivan hit florida a month after Charlie. I had a 33 foot 780 horse power boat in my driveway to take out of harms way and since no one gave me a loaner this is what I bought. Better to spend 50 than lose 190 to a storm.
