If you choose to use the glass cylinders from the Dollar Tree, you have the added benefit of using a real candle, and having the warm glow coming up through the center. These turned amazing. I was shocked at how well it really looks like the real thing. We unfortunately had to chop down our birch tree it was invested with something I can’t remember the name. It was a huge tree. It hurt to see it go down but we saved what we could. With some of the big pieces of the wood we made 3 nice size deer but they crumbled from the elements and because the wood was so rotted from those bug things. They lasted 2 yrs. We knew they wouldn't last long. We have a few more pieces left that I can make smaller crafts. Now I don't have to worry about running out of the birch wood. I can't wait to use this technique. Thank you for sharing. Hugs❄️

Searching for the best technique, I came across this three-year-old video and wow, this is exactly what I was looking for. I have all the paint colors and have my cans prepared. I'm going to make this today. I wanted to make a very large vase that looked like a huge birch log. I did this by removing one of the empty can's bottom with a can opener and gluing the two cans together. I used the cans that McCafe coffee comes in. Glued together, the vase stands 12 inches tall by 6" in diameter. I will follow the rest of your instructions and I bet it's going to look great! I plan on using this during the holidays to put tall stems of holly and pine and sparkling white stems. Might even weave some fairy lights throughout. The technique and color on your log is absolutely perfect. Thank you so much. And sorry it took three years for me to come across it. Your work is beautiful.
