I so enjoy watching you; you are wonderful! I’m so tired of people demonstrating sloppy/incorrect techniques to novices! You talk like we are in the room with you, always making people feel comfortable. You make mistakes & explain how to correct it .... showing that no one is perfect, all the while showing how wonderful the world of sewing is. Don’t stop you are a great teacher!

Really nice cover and you make it look easy.....And yes that McCalls fabric soooo pretty.....I may have to try making this but will not use the foam you used. I will use a fusible batting...Thanks again for sharing.

Jean, your sewing machine cover pattern is exactly what I needed! I was searching all over KZbin for a simple basic sewing machine cover with an opening for a handle that doesn't require a lining.....then bam! Your video ended up in my KZbin search results! I'm planning to add pockets to my cover to house some of my favorite scissors and notions. Thank you so much for posting this video! ❤ By the way, I read on a sewing resource website that recommends pre-shrinking the fabric via pre-washing BEFORE fusing it with fusible foam. Your vintage fabric may have been treated with a chemical coating that may have caused it to shrink when heat from the iron hit it, resulting in excessive fabric wrinkles, buckles or bubbles as well as preventing the fusible foam to adhere correctly to your vintage fabric. In the future, try pre-washing your fabric FIRST, and let it thoroughly dry. Then follow Pellon's instructions on how to use fusible foam on fabric. The fusible foam should adhere to the fabric perfectly without excessive wrinkling, buckling or bubbling issues. Hope this helps.

I, too, had this problem with Pellon foam. That's when I started using Bosal fusible foam. No problems with a project wrinkling since. To fix one of the bags, I just quilted it and it made it look so much better. It hid much of the wrinkling on the bag. Thanks for doing these tutorials! You know what, Jean? I had the same problem with character tote bags, that I had made for my 4 grandkids. I fused the material to fusible fleece and there were a lot of places that didn’t fuse well, making it look wrinkly. Of course, I only noticed it when I had them all sewn together! But I’ll tell you what I found out. I think I should’ve washed the material itself , first, before fusing it, to remove whatever coating is on the material. I never tried that myself, but I read it somewhere. I contacted Pelion and the man that I spoke to, right away, said, “it was defective. We’ll send you another one”. I was not about to take the bags apart @ that point and had no desire to make 4 more, but if I ever do again, I’ll try washing the material first. I think you’re sewing machine cover looks great! Nobody would ever know, from the video, but I’m sure you do. We’re our own worst critics, aren’t we? I know I am! Thanks for your honesty!

Hi Jean! Great way to start my morning, listening to you. Another great tutorial. I have done hints for you though. Try Bo-nash fusible powder to fuse pretty much anything. Quilt layers, foam that doesn't want to fuse. Happens to me occasionally also. I do find that not using a pressing cloth works better for me. The Bo-nash is awesome stuff. It is a very light weight polymer like the use in featherweight fusible. But you control the amount. it never gums up my sewing machine needle like basting spray does and sometimes basting spray even shreds my thread. There's also a ton of other uses for it go out to their website but I bought my powder from Walmart that was the cheapest place to get it and I bought two containers and after three years I still have some it goes a long way. If your cover bothers you that much you should just go ahead and quilt it. That way you can enjoy looking at it. Thanks for the tutorial and I hope you're having a great day.

My new sewing machine also came with a cover. That doesn't deter me from making a custom cover. Sometimes, sewing projects are not about creating something because it doesn't exist. We can create things that are beautiful, reflect our personalities, and provide useful pockets. I'm totally in when it comes to adding pockets to as many things as I can in my life. I also know that it would be impossible for someone to have the exact same sewing machine cover as what I will make.

It's gorgeous, I felt so sorry for you and your disappointment, it's such a cute fabric too. now your going to be fed up with it when you look at it. perhaps you could find a way of quilting it as it is.

LOL! Thank you for that Doreen! I have just come to the conclusion that it is what it is, and accepted it as such! :) Maybe ONE DAY, however, I will quilt it!! ;)

Try to re iron the bag now that it's done with a dry hot iron to see if you get the wrinkles out.

Joann Fabrics has a different vintage fabric that is a bit like the fabric you've used. It is item #16891631 or item #17055674.

I would be upset over using such pretty material and having the fusible foam make a mess of it.
