Hey ECA (can I call you ECA?)...I figured it out! Such a silly mistake; I went over this tutorial endless times & realized that I hadn't put the proper command into my adjustment layer. Once I did that, everything worked as you demonstrated! Great tutorials man. Thumbs up (I did it ~ yaaaay!)

Well I don't smoke cigarettes, I eat them :) the radio voice at the start is from EQ and Compression in Premiere. They have presents for things like 1940s an walkie talkie or old time radio. Good for me because I am weak on audio.

On the mac I use iShowU, a lovely small app that is cheap and feature rich. On the PC I use screencastomatic a free and amazingly light weight app.

pretty much. A dubstep cannon/gun tutorial or effect would actually be pretty interesting. It would work by tracking the audio like the tutorial with the camera bass shake, while using something like Particular and camera tracking to create this explosion of bass and color and light. Hi Evan. Been trying to add the transform distortion to a pre-comp of mine, but been stuck on the first step! :( When i try and add the 'random scale' expression, it says 'Error in Adjust layer...blah blah..... Expected: ;.' I thought of it as a syntax error and added the semi colon and full stop, but the error persists. What exactly am i screwing up?

Well you should read the whole error, it's important. Ae doesn't tell you about errors for fun. It could be that you are missing some semi colons. It could be that you variables are undefined. It could be many things. But knowing the full text of the error, along with what you have written in the expression, would be a better place to start looking.

First of all you are great! secondly.. why when I do the Alpha matte I have only the oprion "layer 3" and not the option layer one as in your tutorial?

Don't worry about what the "option" is being called. It will only look at the layer directly above the layer you're setting the matte for. So mine might have been called "Spinach Dip" for all it matters. Your's is called "layer 3" because that's the layer on top of the layer you're setting a track matte for.

Hi Evan, Great tutorial. While I am typing x=2000; I am getting error : expression result must be dimension2 not 1. expression disabled. Why is that?

The result of the expression is what the property will be after the expression's instructions are followed. Properties need to have the same number of results after the expression as before it. So look at opacity, it has only one number. It's of dimension 1 because it has only the one possible spot for numbers. Something like scale is dimension 2 because it has 2 numbers [this,that]. So any expression you put in a property of dimension 2 needs to tell it what both parts are going to be when it's all done. Does that make sense?

Hey ECAbrams - I need help! When you get into adding the rectangular shape layer at the 8:12 mark, I screw the project up. I've done it twice at the same point: when I add the shape layer, the original adjustment layer graphic disappears!! What the hell is going wrong? I haven't yet figured this damn issue out. +XLOG don't do it if you don't want to. But it helps to keep things organized. And some effects work differently on shape layers in unpleasing ways that you might not expect due to frame relative space vs layer relative space. But if you don't feel a need to do that, don't bother.

+MADinizacion Beer is made from water, yeast and grains. But the text effect you see there was made with a gradient map distorting the layer.

rokinskis11 You need to be very specific because there is an infinite way to "transform" things. If I don't know what you want that transformation to look like I can't help you even a little. So let's say for example you wanted "grilled" to turn into the word "cheeses". You would like the g to become a c, the r to become and h, the i to become and e, and so on? Is that what you're looking for? The shape of the initial letters becomes a new shape and that shape happens to be new letters?
