How do you animate the snake made of shapes in the beggining of your video so it starts the wave from one side?
@ECAbrams

Each of the shapes are going up and down using the math.sin expression. They are offset in time from each other creating the illusion that they are somehow connected. Does that make sense?

Every time I thought I had this figured out, something else broke. I had my initial animation done with TypeArray and I just needed to pin my callouts to one of three set positions, so I could easily change the text (several dozen times) without needing to reposition. Long story short, for whatever reason, the TypeArray expression needs to be applied *after* the sourceRectAtTime() expression or else things just get wonkier and wonkier.

How did you make the individual pieces of the chess board? Did you copy and paste each square, and arrange them manually?
@ECAbrams
@ECAbrams 11 күн бұрын
I believe those are instances of the same cube that makes up the first square of the chessboard. So, if the first square is changed, the others will update.
@WOWSUPERNET

Thanks. Apart from Instances, there is another option in Tools -> Duplicate which enables us to create multiple copies of the same object, instantly. Of course, I understand using Instances might have more advantages..

For whoever is stuck at 12:55, turn the mask for layer 22 'Card 1 Bottom' mask to 'subtract (inverted)'. Whenever you parent the bottom to the top, press R to check axis X orientation to be 180. Layer 23 'Card 0 Bottom''s axis X orientation remian 0.

ECA Abrams, you should be the person in charge of running after effects. They should just give you the job. You teach the indepth knowledge of this program so well, that I believe it would actually help if they just got rid of whoever the director of After effects is, and hired you. This is TRULY the most helpful tutorial for understanding how slider controls work. I can't get knowledge anywhere close to this on adobes own damn forums! There are certain "community experts" who seem like they haven't booted up After effects in a while and continue to give shitty non-helpful answers to peoples questions EVERY SINGLE DAY. Thank you so god damn much for taking the time out of your life to be this helpful. You are truly a god sent gold mine of fundamental knowledge and indepth understanding. Thank you!

I just made an animation - I didn´t use the expressions cause I was doing by eye. Fixing the time, the revolutions and so. Went perfect in the AE timeline. BUT, when I exported, It speeded. Do you know why?

Hey, Super nice tute, thanks! I have a question: Is there the possibility of adding into the expression a line to keep vertical scaling the same value, and the rest the same? So the shapes would scale in only one direction?
@ECAbrams
@ECAbrams 2 ай бұрын
So you mean things squish instead of resize? Like the X will squish (horizontal) but the Y (vertical) should remain as it was at 100%? If that's the case you just need to change the output. When you see something like [thing,thing] with two parts of an array, those correspond to the two parts of the property. So in scale if you wanted just the horizontal to change, leave that part as it is here. And if you want the vertical to always be some other number, change the second part to be that number. Does that make sense?

I followed the tutorial, I do not have an illustrator file but rather a PSD. When I drag all the layers to the matte (which is the same color as yours) it doesn't change anything at all and I can still see the other elements in the background. Any clue what the cause could be? Also, thanks for the tutorials, definitely got yourself a new sub!

Is there a way to do what you're doing here, but instead simply give the length of time for how long the text stays on screen by applying this concept to time remapping, rather than position (and still keep it working in Essential Graphics)?
@ECAbrams
@ECAbrams 2 ай бұрын
anything that can be expressed as a number can be controlled using the format linear(time, from,to,in,out) and modifying the out variable with a slider control. So you could apply that to a time remapped layer. It expresses itself in seconds so it's not much conversion. Does that make sense?
