I've been debating going back to regular griptape as I wasn't a fan of how much the DKL wears down. It wore down to where the top of the deck was showing in spots after like two months. I setup my old sandpaper board and took it out today with my shoes, but I just had this anxiety about doing certain tricks that I knew would wear down my shoes a lot. It's like I didn't want to even attempt to continue learning kickflips much because of that reason. The overall whole session wasn't very enjoyable to me. For that reason, I came home and ordered 3 more sheets of DKL griptape. I don't care if I have to spend $10 regripping the board every couple months if it means I can skate without that anxiety of not wanting to progress due to shoes wearing out. Do you have any tips on making your boards last longer? I still have a board that's good, but I don't really want to regrip it because it has a chip in the back pocket from treflips. I heard you can use some wood filler and sand that out, but I'm not sure how well that works.

Hey Taylor! Depending on how frequently you’re on your board, two months is a long time to skate the same deck! (if you’re skating every day). Good for you for being conscience about keeping your shoes and board in good condition! I would say, if it’s causing you any anxiety, do what’s best for you in your situation. Skateboarding is meant to be fun, not stressful 🙂 when I skate everyday, a month is about the longest my board lasts. If you’re wearing through your griptape, you may need to find shoes with a softer rubber, or (like you said) re-grip the board if the board is still in good condition. I’ve never tried the wood filler, but good luck if you decide to try it out!

@@thebackflipman Thanks for the reply. I guess it's just the truth about skateboarding haha. Something will always wear down, whether it's your shoes, or your board.

Dude! The anxiety is real. I used to skate 20 years ago and would always have a hard time trashing my shoes.

This is very different from what it said to do on the website. Why don't you do it that way? Did you not know about that or is this way just better for you?

The peeling seems a bit off for me. So it falls off more than the normal grip tape you use? I guess that's how DKL makes money, is that the grip tape doesn't hold. Not really something that earns my money.. >.> I haven't seen normal griptape do what it did in the other video you did. Kind of a deal breaker for me.

Great point! Don’t write it off without trying first though! The reason mine is peeling is because I did not file it down. (Which I recommend!) Even with the nose and tail peeling, it still has the same grip, traction, & friction as sandpaper grip and does not pose any negative effects to regular skateboard usage IMO.

@@thebackflipman I get it.. But you made it sound like I would have to rebuy grip tape to replace it, need a little clarification on that. Unless I heard wrong, heh. But it is a fantastic idea.
@thebackflipman3 жыл бұрын
@@KhyrisEidan sorry I wasn’t clear. When you buy a new board, you’ll need to buy new grip tape anyway, so you won’t need to also buy new shoes because your shoes will outlast the board if you use DKL griptape. You won’t need to replace the griptape on the same board. DKL will last the lifespan of the board.

@@thebackflipman alright, thanks for the clarification, It's a neat idea. I think for me, would probably get shoes for crews once the ones I have get worn down. Because I found some and they work with wet surfaces. so when the rubber would be wet, with shoes for crews, you'd get pretty good grip still.. My idea any way.. But thanks again.
