This is so wonderful! I love this idea. Also, I work at a library, please save these books from going in a landfill! Give them a new life with the journals you create! Never feel guilty about tearing into a book. You are saving them and giving them a new purpose.

Great encouragement Melina! When I first started and didn't have much at all, I got stuff from the Dollar Store, or Dollar tree. You can get adult coloring books and colored pencils and color your designs , glue it on cardstock and fussy cut them out! Some even have the guest book pads or receipt pads that can be used! I learned with inexpensive stuff before I invested in better quality which after learning more sure does make some things turn out better. Also, I would find out what a "kit" cost and save to get one as most have one time purchase option..there are so many goodies in kits, the last AJ kit was my first and it had wonderful papers, bling, ink perfect to start a stash! I still don't have a printer so I email the digital to my work email and print them on the printer. I pay the company the 4 cents it cost for the color prints, (the cost is in the copier bill) $20 gets quite a few prints! The majority of my prints are the freebies you, your mom, and Betty provide. I have since been blessed to order Betty's designs which are gorgeous, still need to get some of her material prints. So glad you are here for beginners stating they don't have to have the newest and every release. That can be so overwhelming and make one feel intimidated. But not you and your mom, always encouraged and suggestions to use things, and use what we have. . Sorry for rambling.....

🤣🤣🤣 Sure they do! My desktop computer doesn’t even work. And before I got my printer, or even when my printer is on the fritz, I pulled up my digitals I buy or got for free, on my phone and take the pdf files, that are on my phone, to Office Mac, Office Depot, Staples, etc and get them to print them off for me. I cover this in the video. 👍🏼

Excellent video and tips! Even if someone doesn't have ink pads, you can rub the edge of the papers on the tip of a sharpie marker for example. If you have an old typewriter, you can type your own words, or type them on your computer and print them out. Junk journals are called that because you can use junk to make them, which has caused me to look at my trash in a whole new light! 😂😂😂

This looks so easy. I didn't have any ink pads, so I went to the $$ store and found a stamp pad for the office, black. I used it with a stamp I found at the thrift store and it said FILED, so I used that. I had a couple of markers and I used a dark red one on the edges by lightly running it along the edge of the label I made with the stamp. I stuck it on a piece of writing note paper with a flower I cut out of a magazine. I put my finger in the stamp pad and smudged it on the paper a couple of times. Then I found some coloured chalk and used the red to go around the edges of the paper. Then I glued that onto a piece of white packaging card from the kitchen. It is best not to use thin clear runny glue...takes forever to dry and goes everywhere. It was a bitsa this and that, but I was happy, until I found the free digitals. So I guess to start with, we can use anything to get the look we want. If it's just for ourselves, who's going to know anyway! I had just today made a call to my local library and asked if they discarded old books for people to take instead of them going to landfill and so I'm going there in the morning to get a box full. When I can afford to, I will buy some of those 1 page digitals too. Thanks

This was a great tutorial (even for a seasoned crafter). I remember early on not having a dauber and using the edge of the stamp pad. But now, years later, there’s still things I don’t have (my husband would tell you differently). I love to stamp, fussy cut, make hand dyed paper. A little lace, cheesecloth, glue and imagination goes a long way. As always, thanks for sharing and caring.

Thank you for doing this video. I remember starting out years ago and it can be intimidating. I think about how others are just starting out and your public library is another place you can print sheets for a small fee. To those just starting out you can use junk mail envelopes and packaging or old greeting cards, I like to make journaling cards from greeting cards. Another place to get ephemera from are old magazines. Don't give up just because you can't buy new. I prefer old and the older the better. Thanks for sharing your tips for starting out Melina. If you buy those digital pages and they send them to you then how do you get them printed out I don't really understand all that stuff maybe you can help me

You receive a jpeg or pdf file that downloads or saves to your computer, phone or whatever device you want them to. Then you just click print when you tap on the file and it asks you what you’d like to do with it. if you have a wireless printer, your device should recognize it send the digital pages directly to your printer.
