You make it easy to hear how the 4/4 version of this pattern must have formulated over time. Great video, great playing.

Kakilambe can be tricky to absorb. It's most common basic djembe pattern (b-tts-bt-ts-) is structured in such way that it is easyer to comprehend it as 3/4 pulsating rhythm, rather than 12/8, with 4 pulses in a bar and ternary feel.. :-) Personally I prefer ternary 12/8 way of comprehending. It gives greater feeling of tension in a way and higer tempo, when soloing....Keep up with great work, Louis!

76boromir Thanks. I would define "feeling Kakilambe in 3/4" as a mistake rather than an option. In fact it's a very common mistake people not used to ternary division of beat do. In this particular case for some it's easier to feel b-tt s--- than b-t ts- , with the first slap on a second beat of a 3/4. But once again it's a mistake. Kakilambe is a 12/8 : 4 beats divided by 3 (123 123 123 123).

louiscesarewande Yes. Looking further the "standard" structure of kenkeni and sangban usually acceting every first note of the beat, it becomes soon very obvious that it is ternary 12/8...

louiscesarewande Hi, With the musical notes, in the score, it becomes less difficult (try to play the Djembe) the layman like me at least!

hello Luois I really like the way you let the drums sing... At the end there is a version of Kakilambe that I really like: there is balance, space and great sound. Is it your personal version?
