@jeannetteellis2034 Unfortunately I do not. A lot of it was used with whatever dimensions I could get my hands on as far as scrap lumber and materials I was able to use to keep the price down on the build. I believe the third coast craftsman has plans for his which you can try out and just change up to fit your needs. I highly recommend the entire side opening, the split door, the rain barrel water system, and automated door. Good luck on your build and future chickens!

Fun video! The only thing I might do different is to stain everything before building. Love your humor!!!
@TheReaper1
@TheReaper1 11 ай бұрын
Highly recommend staining first if you can! I was in a bit of a crunch for time and the rain was relentless so I had to keep the project going the best I could. I’d also recommend putting the hardware cloth on the inside of the run if you can. It will help in the long run from keeping chickens from kicking sand etc up onto the studs. Functionally I went on the outside so it was harder for predators to push in on it but it doesn’t look as good as it could! Thank you for watching and commenting! Good luck on your build!

I have a “chicken coop” playlist for when t star to build my own, guess what video just made it into that list 😂 Also, who would’ve thought that painting the mesh wire black would’ve made the coop look clearer, less cloudy and more se through 🤔. Like how 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ Thanks for sharing. Lovely ladies btw… (not the chickens 🐓) 😊
@TheReaper1

Well it’s an honor to have made your list! Yes the other benefit of the mesh being black is taking pictures of the inside of the coop when they’re roosting etc. With it unpainted the camera will only focus on the wires but once it is painted black it looks right through! I am doing the deep litter method and I’ve also put a board in front of the wall that swings out to keep everything in! @annwithaplan9766
@annwithaplan9766 Жыл бұрын
@@TheReaper1 - Good job. I also liked your edging. I use the deep litter method, too. I had purchased my original coop which is still in use, but last year I built a smaller coop myself (I'm 65) and both coops are on the ground. I have electric fencing (but not charged) around the run with one easy-up canopy for shade and another canopy with no top which also holds up bird netting to keep out predators. So far, so good.
@TheReaper1
@TheReaper1 Жыл бұрын
I thought the edging would help the asthetic a bit as well as up the defense of the hardware cloth under it. That’s great that you recently built a coop of your own! It proves age is just a number! How many chickens do you have now with 2 coops? They sound like great set ups! It’s very encouraging to hear you’ve been raising chickens all this time and are an advocate for the deep litter method. Thank you for watching the video and good luck with your 2 flocks!

A very nice build. But I would suggest that you insulated the Coop, not only for keeping the chickens warm in winter, but also to keep it a bit cooler in the summer. Painting the netting black is like making it disappear and make for a better view of the birds. I also noted that the chickens are of the Mediterranean breed, and they are usually not so keen on laying in winter time 😂. I hope you don't get much snow, or freezing weather like we've had here in my part of Norway.
@TheReaper1
@TheReaper1 3 ай бұрын
Currently have 2 feet of snow on the ground and the weather has gone down to -10 with no issues. Still getting around 5-6 eggs a day. Many farmers in my area have similar breeds for decades and no issues with the cold other than larger combs needing some Vaseline every 2 weeks or so to prevent frostbite. The biggest threat I have are hawks, eagles, foxes, and bears all of which have made visits to the property in the last 6 months 😂! Good luck with your chickens and their insulated coop 😂!

After watching so many videos i think this is it!!! I absolutely love it and so entertaining to watch. you are such a funny guy. One question though, do you have a link to the sand you used? I have no clue what the sand looks like up close. Thank you for sharing your coop design. Oh and fyi... the short beard was not a mistake. Looks good on you!
@TheReaper1
@TheReaper1 Жыл бұрын
Why thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and my random thoughts through out the build lol. So on to the sand, after doing a bunch of research for the best run material “All purpose Constructed sand” was the winner. I got it at Home Depot and I’ll provide a link to it. It’s a little more coarse than “play sand”. People that did the research said “play sand” was a no no because it’s particles are too fine. If I were to do it again I would use more sand and have my coarse rocks even lower. I found out pretty quickly the chickens like to use the all purpose sand as make shift dust baths at times and will dig a hole that’s 8 inches deep, which in turn shoots out the larger rocks I placed for irrigation to shoot all over the place in the process! It doesn’t ruin anything other than when I “Poop Scoop” I often am scooping up those large rocks and just throwing them away as well. (So maybe don’t use any large stones) Hope this helps! Thank you for the compliment on the beard too! www.homedepot.com/p/Quikrete-50-lb-All-Purpose-Sand-115251/100318450 Thank you again for watching and good luck on your future build and chickens! I’m actually in the process of starting to edit chapter 2 of the build and my next adventure with chickens. Fingers crossed it is even better (ran into some serious bumps in the road with this one).

@@TheReaper1 thanks again for sharing. I need to get started on a coop because I got five chicks 2weeks ago and they are getting really big. Hope I will catch your next edit to the coop. I truly enjoyed every bit of your video and found it very informative. Oh and one more thing, if you don’t mind, what are the dimensions for the actual coop and the dimensions for the run? Again thank you
@TheReaper1
@TheReaper1 Жыл бұрын
@@saveforthree you better get a move on it then! 😆 As far as the coop size I’ll have to run out and measure it tomorrow but I’d say the coop is about 5’ 6” x 5’ 6” and the run itself is around 14-16’ including the area under the coop that is fenced in (hardware cloth) that’s a rough estimate but I feel it is somewhat accurate. I was using old lumber for the most part and stuff I got as scraps from jobsites. I’ll try to get some measurements tomorrow real quick in the morning. Thanks again!

I found my answer to my question below. "Love Nwantiti" is a song by Nigerian singer and songwriter CKay, released in 2019 as the second track from his second extended play Ckay the First by Chocolate City through Warner Music Group. The song has become a commercial success in Nigeria, the Middle East, North Africa and in many European club venues. It has even been translated into French vocals by French rapper Franglish. My African/Mediteranean guess was the closest with respect to the vocals and my guess about India didn't hold up with the instrumentation. Great Build! Mac

@TheReaper1
@TheReaper1 Жыл бұрын
Well I’m glad you liked it so much! Took a hell of a long time to edit lol! So as far as the roof goes I’m assuming you’re talking about the ribs that have gaps. Technically there are brackets you can buy at Home Depot or Lowe’s that fit perfectly on the studs and you screw through them. This prevents the metal from bending if you sink the screws too deep etc. I haven’t had any pest problems with these. Only thing I could think of would be bees maybe, but I haven’t seen any yet and I’m out there everyday so if I did see a nest starting I’d break out the “shredder” Bug assault gun I have that is co2 powered lmao. Other than that the two eaves that meet between the two roofs have a 2x4 that prevent anything large from getting in, but…… I do have have 2 morning doves that made a nest under it that I didn’t have the heart to boot out just yet. Hope this helps! Good luck on your build! Oh and if you wanted to prevent something like that I know they make these metal spikes (essentially just bent metal rod) that stop birds from perching in areas. Thanks for watching again!

So the rough measurements from the side id say the coop itself (housing for the hens) is 5’ x 5’ 6”. The run from under the coop to the end with the rain collection is about 5’ 6” x 14’. At it’s tallest where the 2 peaks meet I’d say it stands at around 9’ - 9’ 6”.

Whats the best insulation im in Colorado. It goes to -20°
@TheReaper1
@TheReaper1 Жыл бұрын
To be completely honest I don’t know what to tell you for that. I can tell you that my coop has no insulation, but there are a couple of other factors I have going on. The deep litter method causes the pine shavings and chicken droppings to begin composting which in turns generates a small amount of heat in the coop. The specific breed of chicken you have will make a huge difference on the temperatures it is able to handle, some breeds are far hardier than others in colder climates. I only had 2 nights this past winter that dropped into the negatives that also were very windy to the point it was a -50 degree windchill all night. Now I knew that it was going to be very windy and that would cause the coop to lose temperature faster than if the air was still. So I broke down and bought a heating pad. It was around 30-40 dollars and safe enough for direct contact with anything in the coop (safer than a heat lamp). I used that and I saw the temperature of the coop itself rose internally an additional 5 degrees ( I have a wireless temperature gauge in the coop that I can see the readings inside my home from). After those two days I turned the pad back off as to not get them too used to supplemental heat. As you see in the video though I have no insulation on the walls for them. But again I don’t have consistent cold weather as low as yours. Hope this helps a little. Might be best to ask locally what others are doing. You’d be surprised sometimes of how little people do for them lol. Additional take that with a grain of salt because some people are use to losses on their flock where as I am trying to give everyone in it a fighting chance as best I can without breaking the bank. Cheers!
