yo i'll be honest here, developing a musical ear is priceless. the point of where I'll personally have to disagree with you is the fact that music theory can help you build that ear a lot more efficiently (at least this is how i experienced it after learning theory) and a bonus point that worked for me: once you learn the "rules", you gonna get so much more excited about the stuff that are a bit more "odd" and to appreciate them a lot more too. :) + learning an instrument can help you drastically write and sketch your ideas a lot quicker and more fluently in my opinion but great vid kyle, love your stuff.

Can confirm, DEVELOP THAT EAR. I used to be so focused on theory that I was like "nah, this is what theory says, gotta do it this way" and only when I started listening for mood and how the melo/chords are actually sounding my beats/loops got waaay better 💯

Or just use the chord assistant in Fl Studio while you learn music theory, not sure why he didn’t show us how to use the chord assistant. Fl Studio has a chord assistant in the piano roll.

Do you think you can actually "develop" an ear vs being born with it?
@zerotabi468910 ай бұрын
Even if you know nothing about music you can still figure out something's wrong if the melody doesn't follow scale. You're born with that skill. You can also develop your ears (meaning more experience with sounds) by listening to as many sounds as possible and you'll soon figure out what sound sounds nice in the mix.

I think youre making too many rules to make good sounding melodies. When I make melodies I turn my brain off and just get in the zone and just let the heart make the melody. I don’t think there’s too complicated or not complicated enough. Well maybe there is but either way I think people shouldn’t think about what they’re making is too complicated or not complicated enough. I think people should just do whatever. Literally. Like I said turn the brain off and let your soul make the music. Idk that’s what I do and I consider myself to be pretty good at making melodies.
@SyvilBeats10 ай бұрын
he literally said listen and click. it’s just people like you that don’t know how to take advice at the surface. everything he says in this video are things you would do naturally if you were just making a melody by ear. you do these things without thinking about it even because music that sounds good will always have that harmonic value and repeated patterns at times. he’s just explaining it in greater detail because this video is for beginners and they don’t know the workflow.
@kylebeats210 ай бұрын
It says (beginner) for that reason! Just tips that I used at the start and still use when making new stuff

“ Before I learned the art, a punch was just a punch, and a kick, just a kick. After I learned the art, a punch was no longer a punch, a kick, no longer a kick. Now that I understand the art, a punch is just a punch and a kick is just a kick.“ Bruce Lee. This is absolutely spot on. When they say make music without thinking, 👆this is what they mean. There is a difference between a master not thinking while making music vs a newbie not thinking while making music.
@GodSpeed11059 ай бұрын
If you intend for an Artist to hop on then yes you can get too complicated and not leave any room for them. Sometimes less is more.
@jakestvn9 ай бұрын
Agree with this. Within in the first few seconds of him placing notes I heard a completely different and “more complex” melody that could have been fire. I follow a bunch of piano posting KZbin accounts who have crazy complex compositions and it sounds fire. He had some good tops and definitely simple can be a good idea. Do whatever you think is cool!
So now youre enticing kids to not learn about music theory. Anything to make a dollar. #suckamove

I mean this is the way almost everyone start music production with a little bit of music theory .Even really good producers are still doing this technique even tho they know music theory like a book
