The trim tex bead are great for corners the profile is thinner than standard metal bead which means you use less gear to fill them out. Plus any impact damage is normally just a quick fill To damaged area. A metal bead will buckle and will need cutting out and replacing. Great video as always

Smashing vid Pete. I learned to plaster while i was qualifying as a decorator and honestly it was one of the best things i did. Both trades go hand in hand and it means i can get myself out of potentially tight spots by just bonding and skimming. I've tried these pre mixed skim fillers (toupret being the latest one) and i found they're very susceptible to air bubbling if you have to go over them a second time. I tried wetting up afterwards but found the filler didn't like that so much so the next time i try it, I'll probably water down the second pass and see if that makes a difference. I love trying new techniques and new products and if it works then win win i say. Also, like yourself im a fellow cack hander so if someone is teaching you to plaster, remember to do it all the other way around!

Thank you for sharing all your insights, very useful to hear.. In the P&D world, smoothing over larger areas, even window reveals and adding beads - all can be very useful, just like you say.. interesting also to hear your thoughts on the air bubbles, it does seem a ‘problem’ of ready mix, especially over previously emulsion / latex walks 🤔 Thanks again for your input, keep in touch my friend.. regards Pete 💙💯

As novice DIYer can I use technique of skim coat t multi filler instead of traditional plastering as they are expensive to hire. Also what is the purpose of the fibre fleece on the new plasterboard I get on the solid wall was to level it to new plasterboard. Seems in Europe everyone skim coats w beissier and never plaster gyproc pink plaster like in uk, seems toupret gets superior results too. Thoughts?
@PaintHQ
@PaintHQ 5 ай бұрын
@sanjirosanjiro6529 Hello my friend, apologies for the delayed reply - I will always get back to you, it’s a pleasure to hear from a DIYer.. Your thoughts are spot on 👍 I think the traditional plastering methods in the UK are very valid, the skills with a hawk and trowel working with finishing plaster is a skill I very much admire and don’t see those methods going away any time soon 👏👏 But as you notice, the European (and North American) method of using ready mix products, such as Beissier, and finishing drywall is becoming very popular in the UK - Plus it’s methods that P&D’s and DIYers can follow. So yeah, you’re very wise in noticing this emerging market.. As for the fleece, it was just ‘belt and braces’ for me - I think good on solid wall repairs / skim, good for ceilings to prevent future cracking.. but as you say, if boarding, taping and skimming walks, adding fibre fleece isn’t 100 percent necessary.. although it’s quite cost effective and easy to install 👍 hope this helps, keep in touch, I will always get back to you 🙏 regards Pete

Hi Timothy, sure my friend 👍 it’s something I’d like to share information on - for example, I swapped out the hose that I found to be too ridged and not long enough for the flexibility I was looking for - basic for a cost effective generic replacement vacuum hose.. it working pretty well.. Whilst I’m not experienced with Mirka sanding solutions, there’s no doubting the quality and reputation they have in the dustless sanding world 👍 ..The fleece I can definitely recommend - I’ve been using it for a while now, from smaller remedial repairs to larger walls in need of adding strength.. I’ve linked to the fleece from Belmoretools in the video description, very cost effective for a decent sized roll 👌 all the best my friend, regards Pete 💙💯

Hey Stuart, thank you so much 🙏 Some years ago now, I got shown how to use a hawk and trowel by a very good ‘old school’ plastering friend.. I was terrible 😩 ..I blame being left handed 😂 I’ve since preferred a mud pan and knife, plus ready mix products - yeah you’re right there’s a place for various applications, just like I admire those using a brush and oil based products, same as the really good plasterers who can eye up levels in a wall and trowel up razor sharp smooth walls 👏👏👏 Hope you’re keeping well my friend, great to hear from you.. regards Pete 💙💯

Hi Barry, thanks for watching my friend 🙏 That’s a good question.. Yes it would work very well - Same preliminary procedures in checking what you’re dealing with.. I’d look to safely send off a sample of the artex to test for asbestos (there’s online sampling kits).. Then check its sound and it’s not peeling off the underlying ceiling (you don’t want the weight of your skim pulling the artex away).. if it’s safe look to knock off the big peaks.. Then yeah, this process / system will work very well - especially incorporating the fibre fleece, it really helps strengthen and level off 👍 Take care buddy, a new long form video is planned very soon 🙏 regards Pete

The roller loosens fibers during the first uses; it's normal. It no longer loses any after 3 or 4 cleanings. It is therefore better to keep your roller for a long time rather than changing it regularly.

Hey buddy, I too used an Evolution some years ago 😄 ..It was ok, but could scorch the wall if not careful.. The DeWALT is very very nice - I’m a fan of Cordless, although can appreciate there’s not too much of an advantage because you need to run a hose from the extractor.. I like how you can easily extend the reach with just a clip, and the head is pretty flexible (maybe not as flexible as the Mirka - their drywall sanders are known and perhaps lead the way on this).. on that note I cannot deny Mirka and Festool make very high performing sanders - but I do rate DeWALT and the Cordkess Drywall sander is up their with the best 👏👏👏 Thanks for watching the video, and your question.. keep in touch my friend ..regards Pete
