Very nice. I did build my own spinners for over 20 years. I never put beads in top of the clevase. The water is pushing that bead, adding unnecessary friction on clevase. Everything else was beautifully done.

very helpful video; I've modded the ultra minnow to make tailspins and underspins, but not an inline spinner. Yet. As for the body spinning, in making smaller spinners I've had the same problem with willow and french blades. But using blades where the wire passes through the blade (think Panther Martin), I got less spin. So far I have been using bare single hooks...adding some dressing to create some drag might eliminate the spin entirely. Thanks for your video(s).

Great stuff! And here I thought I was the only one that would carve up a $40 mold to suit my uses. I did a similar thing with a large bucktail jig mold to pour giant spinnerbaits for pike and muskies. Liked the tip on taping the wire in alignment and tapping it in. For fine powder dusting on lures without an airbrush old makeup brushes are the bomb. The fine hairs hold plenty of powder and a gentle tap makes for a very fine distribution. Also wanted to cure my powder in a vertical position but came to a different solution. Made a wood frame from 1 x 2s and stapled metal window screen on the top and bottom. Then I put some 3/4" spacers and added a solid bottom of sheet metal from a duct work project. The screen holds the wires upright without slipping sideways. As far as your loop alignment "boo-boo", wire is pretty tolerant of minor adjustments. Gently twisting by 90 degrees is definitely not a big deal. Just go slow. One more thing: Instead of clipping the tag end of the loop try sharply bending at 90 degrees to the standing wire. Often times it will snap clean on the first bend, especially if you do it immediately after you make your barrel. Sometimes you may have to work it a couple of times. The advantage here is it breaks very clean. No sharp end to catch weeds or (worse yet) line. AND it breaks right at the shaft, not necessary to have to try to wrap that last 1/16 of an inch so it doesn't stick out. Last thing: Keep overall lure balance in mind. Too much weight to the rear makes blades hard to start and/or keep turning unless you reel in at light speed. Thanks for your content! I always appreciate an innovative lure guy 👍👍

@@SDGCustomLurecraft Adam, don't think I just saw that head spinning because I know better. I saw it coming because I've done the same think!! I tried years ago to make a style 9 shad jig into a weight forward spinner. I poured the head with the wire through it and decided I'd try to make the loops with my wire former. As soon as the head hit the die on the wire bender the moved back about 1/4", that is when I looked and spun it with my hand, total fail!! So yeah, I'm not so smart...LOL!!!!!

If I may suggest on the whip finish… When I have that kind of issue I use the pull through, add a thread that’s looped, finish wrapping, cut the main and thread it through the loop and pull the loop through. Same as when you’re wrapping rods (where I learned this from). It really is the simplest way and it’s very secure. I really enjoyed this video, I have that mold and will be modifying it. I liked how it looked, thank you.

Great work, Adam! Love the concept and design. Perhaps with an "S" shaped clevis, the 2x blade would have worked after finding the correct size - which is something I struggle with. There must be some blade size - lure length or weight relationship. But for now, it's still trial and error. Even on simple French blade inline spinners.

This makes me want to invent some bucktails with a different hook arrangement for the saltwater. I don't want the spinner stuff, just a head with a loop for a split ring and a hook tie. But your invention is pretty cool too. I wonder if saltwater fish would bite them?

I'd just wait to epoxy them after you've tied them so it also secures the whip finish.I'd also use UV epoxy instead,there's no mixing and it doesn't cure until you want it to cure. There's another way also,create a J loop bend (as done to spinnerbait mold forms) so it's placed in the middle of the head then add a spinnerbait hook and then pour. You can't use the treble hook with this method but a single hook works just fine catching fish. I have modded a lot of my molds,from anything to use smaller/larger hooks,different head shapes to making spinner/inline baits. Have to also watch hitting the molds with a hammer or even putting then in a vise,either way can break your hinge or break the mold somewhere in the middle. I just place the wires/hooks where they need to be and use a scratch awl (X-acto knife works fine too)to outline the wire/hook.
@rider660r
@rider660r Жыл бұрын
BTW,don't use those snap swivels to attach any lure/hook/bait. It's lazy an a noob way to attach lures. It will also fail at some point. Best thing to do is use a swivel tied to your main line then a length of leader tied right to your lure or at the very least if you insist on using a snap swivel get those locking ones,they offer a lil more holding power than those cheap ones.
