Here's an easy way to install a mailbox anchor for a 4x4 post. This no dig ground screw just threads into the ground with no tools and works with decorative mailbox posts/sleeves that slide over a 4x4. I've used these a few times and recommend them. They aren't as solid as a concrete of course but plenty study for a mailbox and easy to reposition if needed.
Buy the ground anchor here: amzn.to/3sqcrKx

I was thinking to do this or to pour concrete, let it set and put a post holder on it with concrete screws and to post. The wood eventually gets bad, so I totally like this idea way better

I’m a complete novice when it comes to this. Couple of questions. What would happen if the post is not 100% level? I’m not talking about wonky, but just ever so slightly not level. Also, because the screw in bracket (the piece you put in the ground) only has two sides and is not a box, how does the wood post stand up by itself before you screw it into the metal part?

My questions is how sturdy is it? do you feel a lot of give when you wiggle it around? will it stay true level over the years? It's about time to replace mine and I was looking at the various methods on how to doing it. Thanks in advanced

I find it as stable as direct bury of a 4x4 post. A concreted post beats it out. It partially depends on your soil type, sand doesnt hold well and if its super soft (water saturated) clay then it can get lose. "Regular" dirt works well from my experience.

can this be used to anchor a lean-to ?

Depends on size/use and your local code.

I imagine you'll have to drill pilot holes for the lag bolts?
@NaterTater
@NaterTater Жыл бұрын
Yes you could/should if your wood is dense. My 4x4 is probably 20yrs old and was able to accommodate the extra "squish" without a pilot hole or any cracking.
@frogstomp11
@frogstomp11 Жыл бұрын
@@NaterTater Thanks, that's what I figured. It's a brand new 4x4 and quite dense. I have a large selection of bits. Just waiting until Thursday when it arrives. Thanks again for the video and recommendation.

Do you think it will work with a post 7 feet tall for a solar lamp post?
@NaterTater
@NaterTater Жыл бұрын
i think they make longer ones that might work better for that. like 3ft long
@lapeur

How sturdy is it?
@NaterTater
@NaterTater Жыл бұрын
Will depend somewhat on the soil but i'd say atleast as good as digging the same depth hole and sticking the 4x4 post in the ground. Less sturdy then a larger hole and concrete anchored post. Mine is still standing straight today without me messing with it.

Do you think these ankors will be strong enough for 7 foot 4×4's and provide tension for a sunshade? Perhaps 7 foot posts would add too much leverage for it to work.
