I just removed the most stubburn 1-3/8 drain. Tried a couple tools and methods. Finally got it with a Blow torch for about 20 seconds, then turned it with that 1-1/2” extraction tool and a breaker bar.
@ThatFixItGuy2 жыл бұрын
Right on. That is awesome. I will add heat next time ones stuck. I just bought a new tool to review that looks like it could be the best on the market. A review will be coming soon.

@@ThatFixItGuy Yesterday I tried that new 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 extraction tool by Superior, and it did not work for me at all. It wasn’t even close to working in my situation. When using a blow torch make sure nothing is plastic that could melt. I’m assuming the heat makes the metal softer so the teeth can bite better. I’m going to try this method on another 1-3/8 drain soon. I will let you know how it works.

@@jasonzupke1474 right on. Or look for a tub tornado. Have not used it yet, but the tool looks like it will remove anything. I will try to do a tool review on it soon. It’s a beast.

@@ThatFixItGuy Can you send a link please? Please test it out on an actual stuck drain. Looking forward to hearing about it.

@@jasonzupke1474 sorry I’m looking for it on the internet. I can’t find it. I found it at a supply house.
@saltspringrailway36834 жыл бұрын
Heating it for a couple of minutes with a hair dryer or heat gun to soften the seal makes extraction much easier apparently.
@ThatFixItGuy4 жыл бұрын
I always forget about the heat gun, but you are right it may have helped. Thank you for your comment.
@jasonzupke14742 жыл бұрын
I clarify that. I used a blow torch for like 20 seconds and it softened the metal for a better bite.

If the crosspieces are still good needle nose pliers works good to remove and replace the drain cap .

The Tub Drain Extractor tool does not work. It's teeth did not bite and it slipped every time. The brass coloured coating even flaked off. A waste of time and money. The metal teeth in the extractor tool need to be harder than the tub drain it needs to cut into.
@ThatFixItGuy4 жыл бұрын
Did you tap the extractor down in the drain? Sometimes it needs a little help getting down in there. How did you end up getting it out?
@tommyowen5293 жыл бұрын
I agree. Bought one today, the teeth won’t grab, at all. I started with light hammer whacks then full on angry whacks, still wouldn’t grab. Gonna try some friction tape but I doubt it works.
@nicgiangreco213 жыл бұрын
@@tommyowen529 did the friction tape work? Same issue. The teeth didn’t grab

I broke it loose with a blow torch first, then the 1-1/2 “ extractor started turning it.

It should be noted that, much to my surprise, a standard socket wrench alone probably won't fit the drain extractor. So, if you are like me and have various screwdrivers, pliers and mid-size wrenches, but not a large assortment of tools, you may not have what is necessary.
@jeffflowers729 Жыл бұрын
I watched your other video about "easy" drain removal. My cross members disintegrated. I was about to comment and then saw this video in the sidebar. I'm afraid of it being stuck and twisting whatever pipe fixture its screwed into underneath. It's a mobile home with little to no access underneath without removing the vapor barrier and insulation if something breaks like it did on you :(
