Could be the best sound quality of all of your videos! Excellent work. Sure wish you would post a bit more often Enoch.

I totally agree. I know he's a "cow" vet, but I learn a lot about treating my sheep, as they are also ruminants. I've had three (or four, depending on how you count things) medical crises this year for my small herd of 8 adult sheep plus lambs, but unfortunately if I need actual veterinarian help I'd have to put a sheep in the car (my sheep are Jacobs, with four horns), or I'd have to get a veterinarian out to my farm, or deal with the issues myself. It might sound awful, but I have a gun, and neighbors with a gun, so if an animal needs to be put down, sometimes that's the decision I've had to make. Beyond that it has been a wait-and-see. But everything he teaches in these videos help, from his post-mortems to his lancing of abscesses helps me get a better idea about my sheep. I've used what I've learned here to spot an abscess and lance it. I did not do an autopsy on the only animal that actually passed away, but I am pretty sure it was either that he got cast, or his head couldn't handle 8 horns, or his horns got caught on something when he was cast, and he passed on. I also had one animal that decided he still had gonads (and perhaps he had a retained testicle), so he started wanting to kill me and came mighty close. As his purpose was to be a companion to my ram, he couldn't make babies, and his fleece wasn't that good, AND he wanted to kill me, we ended up putting him down (and eating him, yummy). I also had one lamb I had to put down when it became progressively weaker (four horns, deviation in the spine causing compression on the cord). There will be those who feel it's wrong that I've not paid to get a veterinarian out to my farm, but (1) it might be literally impossible to get one as sheep are rare in my corner of Oregon, and I'm way out in the boonies, (2) If I did call on a veterinarian, it would cost me about half of my entire winter feed budget, and (3) I do have a relationship with a veterinarian who I bring fecal samples to, and who does help me to get meds whenever I need them.

@@LadyLithiasYou do what you have to do. These are farm animals & farmers are very diy hands on than most people. It comes with the job. Although my cousin used to treat the minor abscesses that her rescue rats developed. Mostly because vets are expensive & they had a lot of rescue rats to care for. Although if a vet was badly needed & there was a chance it would help they'd take them in. She even researched how to put them down humanely herself. There was a trick to it she learned but a big animal would definitely need a gun to be put down. Nothing wrong with that either.

Nicely done, Enoch I appreciate your skill working so calmly and quickly with these animals. I read in another comment you were laid up with a vehicle mishap, may I ask what happened? Also, missed your videos and I am so glad you're back!

this guy flushed with a stirrup pump with 5 gallons of lidocaine in water which is great, the vets who just squeeze it and maybe squirt 100ml of fluid in don't flush the cavity properly and this can and usually does create problems with reinfection and maggots etc,
