Good idea you use the metal peg in the centre of the pot. I don’t have them so I will use my old chop sticks from homeland Japan. I am living in the UK and love English garden as well as Japanese garden. But here I have English garden cause it’s too much for me to make or build real Japanese garden here. I love Fucsia flower very much. Also David Austin Roses. Thanks a lots for your video. 🌸 ⛩

Thank you for the lovely video. I want to take cuttings from a fuschia that was given to me, but mine does not have the nodes as shown in yours. So the two main stems have two opposite leaves at intervals running up the stem. The stems are far too long with leaves at the uppermost tip. I want to take cuttings plus encourage the plant to bush out from the base. The stems at the base are quite woody at this stage. Another question please: I want to keep the plant in a pot rather than plant into the ground. What conditions do the plants prefer? I have mine in the shade on the East facing side of my property. I do have a covered back verandah so I can move it around to suit the plant. PS we have one more month of winter then will be heading into spring. I really hope you can help me here. Thanking you. Elaine from South Africa.

Sounds like yours are hardy. If they are then they will come back each year. Keep them in winter away from heavy frost. You can take cuttings the same way from the soft stem and new growth. Pinch of the flowers if there is any. All the best

JustOneForAll .... awesome. Thank you so much for your response. What I did do was to pinch off the tips of the two soft stems and I noticed that they are forming new bud nodes along the soft stems at each opposite leaf. So I am ready to propogate. I should get at least 4 cuttings from each branch, and that will encourage new growth further down on the woodier sections. I have saved your video in my library so will let you know how we have progressed (My fuschias and I) Thanks again Elaine

JustOneForAll I have a few fuchsias in pots but lately they are dropping leaves. Could you tell me why this could be happening. I live in Australia and right now it is late Spring. I use Osmocote and also Thrive, a soluble fertiliser. Would appreciate any advice you may have. Wendy Jones

Hi, The Plants you have are they hardy? (do they come back each year). Have you had a drop in temperature for a few days? The pots that they are in, how long have they been in them? Could you estimate the size of the plant diameter and the size of the pot? Similar thing happened here in the UK this year. We had a warm spring start everything flowering and then for about 3 weeks cool weather and the leaves all started to fall off. this happened to pot and ground plants. They came back late and flowered well into autumn. This year has been so confusing weather for the plants. Chat soon, try not to worry.

JustOneForAll Hi there, Thanks for your reply. To be honest, I really don't know which ones are hardy and which are not. They do come back every year - does that mean they're hardy? Most of the plants are in hanging baskets in a shady area on the west side of the house and it gets a bit windy at times. I have some in pots on the east side and they seem to do alright. Every now and then I stir up the soil and if it feels too tight I repot them. Could it be that I'm over fertilising or over watering - they are very fussy plants aren't they.
@TopsMiah
@TopsMiah 6 жыл бұрын
Great points you mentioned, Yes when it gets tight repot them carefully in warm weather. East and West facing wall is not ideal. These are summer plants which like warm to hot weather. Wet and windy combination is the worst for these plants. I would say if you repot then feed less. If the weather is gonna be cold then put in a sheltered spot. Like in the corner or near a wall. In spring they need very little water especially the hardy variety. Hope this helps. all the best. Let me know in a few weeks how they are doing.

My Hanging plant has many buds, but they just don't open up. I water it almost daily, fertilize once a week or so, deadhead them, very early sun and mostly in shaded area the rest of the day....so again, why won't those buds "open" up?

Hi can I do the same method with upright fuschias? Thanks
@TopsMiah

Hi you can but they have to be new soft shoots that you take cuttings of. make sure no flowers at the end. If there is flower buds just pinch them off, everything else the same. I did many over the years. Good luck.
