They are copper wire, gauge 20 and 26 (0.8 and 0.4mm). You can use any beads you like. try to search the keywords "copper wire" on eBay...

If you do these with 20 guage wire it's too thin. If you use 18 you can't get the thin wire through as well as a bead. Not a standard bead. I love this idea. If you use thinner wire to go through the bead at the same time it's far too thin. I simply can't get the thinner wire through as well as the normal sized bead. I really tried.

You can try 20g half hard wire.

It's stronger with glue. But without glue, 0.4mm wire also can fix it.
