UPDATE: I installed the speaker mesh and dynamat, it made a massive difference all together. I did end up lifting the bass a bit on my equalizer. It felt a little flat with the way the equalizer was set previously. Overall, a great DIY. 10/10 recommended!

I have been waiting foreveeer for someone to do this, are you going to upload a video on how to add the mesh & dynamat?
@ThicWhips3 жыл бұрын
@@risosi8092 I can, but it is VERY easy. You just measure the rectangular area behind the speaker ports (5" x 4"), use two pieces of 3m on top and bottom and place it in there. It fits snug, wont go anywhere. For the Mat you just measure every area you want to cover and cut out the mat, and apply. Its basically a massive piece of adhesive. Real simple. But I can go over it in a future video for sure.

My only concern with doing this DIY is if the wires or if the speakers heat up it could possible catch the foam wadding on fire. I’m sure it won’t be an issue but that’s was something I was thinking about when I first heard of people doing this modification.

Fun fact: had my doors sound isolated today at a specialist shop, upon dismanteling they found out that the speakers behinds those JBL meshes are just regular BMW speakers. Not that JBL was ever a HiFi brand, but why bother with the branding? :(

i still had rattling noise behind the seat although much mess, discovered that the panels behind both seats are doing it. it even rattles by tapping them with hands… so removed the isofix lid and pushed as much isolation material as i could to them rigid. its all solid now and finally i all sounds nice, sound overall cleaner, bass became bid and deep and even added more on eq…and no rattles. finally. still wonder how come the smart toyota gr guys let this music system pass their internal qc process…

Just did this tonight. Great mod. No vibrations or rattles. I don't know how you got 2 rolls in there. I used poly fil stuffing (the stuff that goes inside stuffed animals) and I could only get 3/4 of a bag in there.

This is going to be the first thing I do to my Supra. I like the HK/JBL system in my 340i and was a little concerned after seeing complaints about the JBL in the Supra. I did not like the solutions that included speaker replacements because the mounting hardware on the Supra speakers looks fragile. Glad I saw your video.

Excellent, cheap, easy DIY solution! I wonder if anyone has used polyfill to stuff in the speaker box? Typically polyfill is what is used inside of speakers boxes to deaden an cause speakers to react as if in a slightly larger enclosure. I have used pollyfill in the past in OEM subwoofer enclosures with very notable success.

It looked like the speaker wadding actually blocked the existing "ports" (metal slots) in the box - is that correct or is the port elsewhere?

Same here. I see where people are using some foam padding under the trim piece. There is quite a bit of air moving that actually goes under the back padding carpet liner. Make sure to seal it off also. 11” on left in length and 6” on right about 1/2” wide should do the trick. Just my opinion.
@robbaines72 Жыл бұрын
Are you completely stuffing the space with wadding or leaving a gap by the ports for the air to escape?

Does this technically "void your warranty" if a tech happened to look to closely at the cut cover even though it looks oem? Not that I particularly care if it improves sound quality but I know how much of a pita dealers can be.

@CRatcliffe3 жыл бұрын
@@simivoy neither do I but with how I've seen dealers act i wouldn't be surprised if, for example, the amplifier happened to give out and they try to blame excessive heat due to the filling material or some bs like that. I just use the amp as an example because my mothers 2010 had the amp from HK give out within 45k miles
@mk5_3 Жыл бұрын
This has nothing to do with warranty, warranty can only be voided if this part damages any other part related to mechanical operation, for example, changing tires out of spec into slicks can be used to void your warranty as Porsche says it puts excessive strain on the transmission
@69dugg3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting this! So the only difference between your method and the original was the speaker wadding right? Sometimes the panel on top near the sub grill (directly on top where your port is) vibrates for me and I have to hold it down to get rid of that noise.. you think that wadding would get rid of that? Excited to try this out!
@simivoy3 жыл бұрын
The wadding and the foam will help a lot with the vibration.
@wfujay39463 жыл бұрын
If you look at the original forum thread, the guy pulled apart the subwoofer grills and put dollops of silicone adhesive along the undersides of the grill covers to completely eliminate those rattles. The wadding is mainly for reverberation elimination inside the box, not for the speaker grill rattles.
