After you use the amount of starter you need for your bread, how many grams of water & flour do you use to maintain the starter? Also, how much starter, flour, water, salt did you use for the no knead bread?
@crystalsbread76373 жыл бұрын
Hello Cheryl, I usually leave about half a cup of starter in my fridge at all time. Then the evening before I make bread I take out my starter from fridge and leave on counter for about an hour. I usually use 320 g starter to make 2 big or 3 medium loaf of bread. I add to my starter 160 gram water and 160 gram flour. Of those 160 gram flour I mix half whole wheat and half unbleached flour. Then I mix it and let is sit in room temperature on counter for overnight about 10-12 hours. Next morning I take my 320 g starter and left over starter I put back in the fridge and this cycle goes on and on. Now, let me share some link to my sourdough bread recipe, please follow the recipe and make your sourdough bread. Please find other bread recipe as well. If you have any question please let me know. Can I use almond flour to make starter and then can I use almond or coconut flour to make the bread?
@crystalsbread76372 ай бұрын
@@shaydensears6551 i would suggest use rice or other grain flour to make the starter. Nut flour might not work as good as grain flour. At any case you may try with almond flour and see if it will work. I have not done that way before. 😊

My starter does not rise the right way. Not sure what has happened, it just goes from raw flour to a alcoholic/ammonia smell within the first 6-12 hours without rising or bubbling
@crystalsbread76372 ай бұрын
@@JKOOLDK i would suggest add little more flour and make it little bit thicker and see what happens. Also put it much cooler place than you did before. Perhaps it might be warm.

Hi! After 12 hours of feeding my starter the second time it created hooch (a brown liquid that I read is alcohol). What do I do with it? Thanks!
@crystalsbread7637 Жыл бұрын
Hello Andrea, it is okay. Just continue to keep following the process to make your starter. If you in process of making beand new starter it really is not going to be real hooch. The real hooch will form from mature starter that you left out so long that you have not refreshed it for a while. Good luck. Any questions let me know.

after you make starter can you change type of flour to make it rye starter or wholemeal starter or whatever or must it always remain white flour

Today Is day 2 I see bubbles 😂 but it looks like a bit of separation in the jar is that ok or should I mix it up
@crystalsbread76377 ай бұрын
I would suggest next feed just add little more flour and make it little thicker, that means bacteria will have more food and starter will do better. Good luck.

Hello Emmanuel, if the water turned green might indicate there are other bacteria than one you want. You may discard it and start over again. Keep it in cooler place this time. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck. Happy baking.

@@crystalsbread7637 Hi I have remade sourdough starter and now I’m on day 3 and no mold I have it in a cool place also do you have a recipe to make the sourdough bread with this starter also there is A lot of bubbles and it has Risen passed the rubber band.

@@emmanuel26 that is fantastic news. Looks like you captured good yeast there. Please look through any of my sour dough starter bread recipe on my KZbin channel. I would recommend start with basic bread. Then get gang of it. Make sure your starter at least 7 or more days. Then it will really mature to rise dough. Please keep trying. Don’t get discouraged. It is a process like learning anything new. Just be patient with yourself and your little baby starter. It takes time in the beginning this new baby starrter to rise a bread dough. Sometimes it may take half a day to see some sings of rising or more. It will all work out. Actually golden secret is that those starter yeast bacteria are live organism and will sense how you treat them. So talk to them and care for them. They will do wonders to you and you will be surprised that you actually made the wonderful bread on your own. That is the most wonderful feeling of all bread baking. Happy baking. Any questions please let me know. Also go check out my videos os how to take care of sourdough starter and some tips. Those will help you a lot. Good luck.
