10 minute meals I totally agree. I'm a stubborn guy when it comes to changing lifelong habits and tradition. This technique and process is really amazing. You can use it on less expensive thinner cuts and still get great steaks, however if you pay the big money for a thick prime beef cuts, you need to use this method. Use the hottest fire by blowing the already hot coals with a blower. The results are an amazing looking and tasting steak. Thanks for watching.

I don't understand what makes it supposedly spin better than the stock grates.
@progers50196 жыл бұрын
When you look at the construction of the two grates, the stock handles are welded on and stick out the bottom just a little, and bump against the kettle brackets when you turn it. ABC's spin grate are welded at the top of the grate and don't bump the kettle brackets.

Phil, looks awesome! Quick question. How does cooking on the kettle differ from using the WSM with the extra grate option? I added the new grate & used the Vortex for wings for the first time & it turned out great. Thanks.
@progers50197 жыл бұрын
Rick Wischer Hey Rich. Actually not much difference at all. Very similar experience. It FEELS slightly different. Example is like sitting in your wifes car and you both have a Chevrolet where hers is a low riding sedan, and yours is a 4WD and sits up high. Same dash, same controls. The grate brackets on the kettle sit lower where the wsm grilling brackets are just beliw the top. The WSM stands higher and actually gives a more pleasant experience standing. First time I used the kettle doimg the same cook, it felt funny just like the car/truck analogy. As far as comparing cook times and temps, I haven't done any lownslow yet. Stay Tuned. Thanks-Phil

Hi Phil, you are right when you said there is a some “science” behind this technique. My question would be is this worth the extra work & does the steak taste really much different compared to a basic grill method? 🤔Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
@progers50197 жыл бұрын
Raul Velasco Hey there Raul, I guess you could say yes and no. An old saying is "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder". What looks good and taste good to me, may not be the same experience for someone else. My experience with this method is a good one. It's not that much extra work (30 minutes to reach 115°, then only four minutes to sear). Produces a premium looking & tasting experience on a premium cut of beef). Is it worth it? Again, it's solely up to each individual. If you like what you're doing with your Saturday night steak, and have hesitation on this, then stick with your favorite way to do steak. It's purely discretionary. Thanks Raul.

I don't understand why you need to spin it. Why cant you just use the tongs to flip them and move them around?
@seikibrian86416 жыл бұрын
If you just moved the meat, the grill grate would be hot over the coals. By spinning the grate, the meat goes on a cool section of the grate so you don't get over-seared grill marks by the time the heat of the coals sears the meat between the bars.

@progers50197 жыл бұрын
MeatHead It's okay Meathead. Like they say, we can agree to disagree. I'll be the first to say there are many ways to cook things including steak, and great tasting steak without special devices. But it's okay for both of us to like the way we both choose to do it. We buy things we see that we want, not because we need them but because we want them. If it's not eat, drink, clothing, or shelter the same holds true. Your house and my house are filled with things we bought, not because we need them but because we wanted them, and were willing to spend the money to get it. The grills you and I have are not necessary either. We can cook the ribs, butts, chicken, burgers either on the stove top or in the oven. See how this works. It's not fair to single out one business or marketed item to say it's a gimic or not needed to get your result. Everything Amazon sells is stuff which is a gimic (or something we do not need). Since we have the freedom to choose what to spend our money on (on other stuff we don't need but want) we can opt not to buy it without holding others in contempt for choosing to buy it. That freedom is what America is all about. Our Christian love should be the driver to respect that. That's the way I see it. Thanks good buddy for listening to this old fart. Like I said, it's okay.
@BabyBackManiac7 жыл бұрын
Meathead, I'll just say I thought it was a dumb idea when I first heard it too. Actually, I just thought it was too "fidgety" and not worth the trouble but since David was paying me, I tried it....and it's sorta ruined me for steaks cooked any other way. There is something so good about having every bite caramelized instead of just the marks where it hit the grill...and now whenever I see traditional grill marks, my eyes are drawn to all the non-seared meat in between them (it's weird because I never noticed it before). But with that said, even if you don't buy into the method, the grate itself is worth looking at simply because the way the hinge piece comes off completely (great access to coals on indirect) and more importantly the fact that it's 304 stainless and won't rust like the stock one's do after a year or two. Honestly I think you'd like it.

So why not simply flip streak to sear. #Weber are amazing, I love mine. (They should make a shelf for the little smokey joe, just a hint) If the grate is cold, grab the handle without gloves lol. I know it's a selling point and not you guys

Well, I guess it's the not so hot grate after a minute using the other side. lol Most of the time I'm switchin sides with two other steaks when I spin it.
