This is my first time viewing your channel. Probably the most concise and honest comparison video I've ever seen. Plus, you speak well and seem like a nice person! To my mind, the Weber Performer seems to be better. I already own a Weber Kettle, but I hardly ever use it these days. I tend to go with my Masterbuilt Gravity 800 or my Camp Chef Woodwind Pro. They are just easier with the control modules and all.

I have the standard Weber 22" and the SnS 22". In these reviews, nobody ever points out that the lower intake leaks air on the SnS. The blades are not correctly curved relative to the bowl. That means you can cook low and slow with all the lower intakes completely shut - because it leaks! However, I've found that after many, many cooks, grease and charcoal dust will build up in the bowl and effectively block the leaks. The blades will not scrape out all the grit because - they can't! The lower bevel blade tips do not make contact with the bowl as they should. But the gradual build-up of grit in the bowl effectively solves the leak problem. The Weber bevel blades, on the other hand, are very snug to the bowl and so there is no intake leak problem. Thanks for the review!
@Viewtoagrill Жыл бұрын
Hello Mark, I have not had the issue with the blades not fitting correctly. When I shut down the SnS the fire goes out. Thanks for watching. I appreciate you!
@markennes5208 Жыл бұрын
@@Viewtoagrill Yes, the fire goes out because you closed the upper damper. But the lower damper blades leak air. You can see they lift off from the bowl at the tip. It even shows it on the photo on the SnS site. Thanks again

Great detailed review! I have owned several Weber kettles in the past and have loved them. I currently own a Weber Smokey Mountain that I love as well. When it came time to replace my last kettle, I decided on an SNS Deluxe and have been thrilled with it. I use the smoke hole on its own to smoke larger cuts without a blower attached. I can keep the SNS right around 250 for several hours when I do that. Both Weber and SNS make great products.

After much consideration I ended up purchasing the SnS. I've always wanted a kettle and thought I was going to buy the Weber. When I found out most people with the Weber end up buying all of the SnS accessories it made my option easier. I love that it has the smoke hole, I use that rather than the big damper down below and love that it has the slot for my temp probes. So far, I've smoked pork shoulders, brisket, ribs, and chicken but love using it for steaks. I also purchased the Cast-iron drip pan, Carbon-Steel Plancha to make philly cheese steaks, and the elevated rack for a little more space. It is my go to grill!

I really tried to love my sns but will be trying to return it, I’ve had it for 2 weeks. I must have got a bad one. The nuts for the lid holder were slightly larger so you could not snug them. My lid does not sit even. The airflow/ash cleaner blades have a big gap. So cleaning the ash is horrible and when snuffing the coals it would take forever since it still had airflow. That was just my experience. The slow n sear basket is awesome though.

Hello Marco, if you do return it, let me know how the customer service is.

Really thoughtful, clear comparison. My Performer, which gave up the ghost due to a grease fire, had an issue you did not cover. The paddles at the bottom that brush the ask out the bottom vents and control the airflow, got all hinged up with grease/ash. Then they bent when I tried to clear the gunk. What are these paddles like on the SnS? It is a very weak feature of the Weber. Also the two basket setup of the Weber is great for my favorite cooks - indirect. The SnS unit only provides heat on one side. I doubt if indirect on the SnS would provide balance to the heat source. Although I have always thought that build quality is not good on Weber products and is getting worse. The SnS seems even more poor. Thanks for your comparison.

I asked you earlier about the spin grate and Slow n Sear from SNS. My spin grate does spin on my 22" Performer. The hang up with the Weber grate is the handles catching on the tabs. The SNS grate handles are on the inside of the grate while the Weber's are on the outside. The second thing I asked about was why do most people set up the Slow n Sear basket on the right. If on the left the bolts for the lid bail block lifting the grate to add charcoal. You have to off set the setup so you can lift the grate. Just thought I'd follow up with you.
@Viewtoagrill Жыл бұрын
The bolts the lid bail are high enough gor the grate and the SnS insert to fit easily under them and does not block me from lifting the grate to refill if necessary. To make it easier to fill the SnS basket I would have to move the lid while filling. Its not an issue at all. Hopefully I answer your question this time. I think I understand what you are asking.

I always wanted a kettle and just as I was serious about it, the SNS came out. I ended up getting the SNS because of the design features. Specifically that the thermometer and vent are on the same side so the temperature is more accurate on the indirect side. Also, with the smoke hole port, people are able to dial in 225-250 solidly. I’ve got both cast iron and stainless drip and griddle pans and I’ve got their thermometer that I had before I got the grill. Looking forward to putting everything through its paces.

I didn't know at the time when I got my kettle from them, that I could get it with the "deluxe" SNS...I found out about 2 months after I got it and they told me since it was past the 30 day of delivery, I could not exchange my regular SNS basket for the deluxe basket. Kind of soured me on them. At the time, the Weber performer you show wasn't available. I really like the removable water chamber on the deluxe along with the bottom grate to hold the charcoal so you don't have to clear out the entire bottom grate of your charcoal to clean it. I've got a metal working friend out here that is going to possibly make me a SS grate I can pop rivet to the bottom of what I have but I will still not be able to remove the water chamber. Nice comparison. I found a used Weber Performer and really like its sturdiness and compact size. I do not own a SnS kettle, but know their products are well thought out and use quality stainless steel where it counts. The SnS vent design and cable port, thermometer location stand out for todays use of a kettle; very few use the two basket configuration which may limit your smoking space and requires two fires to manage. One thing I love about my Weber kettles are the numerous aftermarket accessories, like the Spider Grills and Onlyfire products to name just two. I do like that SnS is a family business dedicated to quality over Weber becoming a publicly traded company. Weber irks me in that they very often offer more options outside of the USA. A few years ago, I had a question about the SnS and the owner and designer, David Parish, answered the phone to my surprise.

Great content as always Johnny! Really appreciate the detail you put into your videos. The great content is matched only by the great quality! I only got into charcoal grilling during the lockdowns… specifically August of 2020. I got a Weber Premium and love it but wished I’d have gotten the Performer model you have. I’m not interested in the Deluxe Performers with the timer or gas assist. I’ve seen some complaints about the SnS grills stability and the ash sweeps not doing a good job of cleaning. Having said that, my first and only Weber purchase took three bowls to get right as the P shaped cutouts weren’t in the right place and the ash sweeps never closed completely! Still finding my way between the Slow n Sear and Weber char baskets. A full chimney of KBB with split baskets, top vent wide open, bottom vent 1/8-1/4 open yields me 90/120 minutes of 350. My snakes run within ten degrees +\- for 8 hours. I own both the Original SnS as well as the Deluxe, EZ Spin and DnG. I have yet to get the consistency with them that I can get with the above named methods. The snake is more a PITA to set up but man does it run stable and clean with no temp spikes. I did my first brisket a few months ago and it turned out perfectly following America’s Test Kitchen’s recipe. I may try and experiment a bit more with the SnS but I definitely feel more confident with the baskets and snake.

The SnS deluxe looks much better from a cooking perspective. It's only 10-20$ more than the Webber. For that $20 you get a lot more control over your cooking. The vents are larger, more blades, and they're more polished. It also comes with real two zone system, and being able to spin the grill grate is a huge plus. Last but not least, more grill surface is preferable to more grill height. I can always cut an inch off the top of a ham for the puppies.

This is comparison I was hoping for. I have the Weber you showed. Looking at that SNS. Like the li with the vent and vent position. The other thing on the SNS is the two ports. On the other hand I like the stability and the larger side table on my Weber Performer. With the side shelf down and the grill covered it doesn’t take up a lot of patio space. I just have a couple questions for you. Will the SNS Spin grate spin on the Performer? Second is if you use the Slow and Sear do you always have to have the hot zone on the right side of the grill or can you use it on the left side when facing the grill? I think I’ll keep my Performer.
@Viewtoagrill Жыл бұрын
Hello John. Yes the spin grate will spin on the performer. For the hot zone, you can have that anywhere you want it, although I do think it works best on the side next to the table. I bought mine a few weeks ago to smoke and grill... first 3 times I've used it and I've smoked some ribs for ~8 hours... light cleaned it and closed vents after every cook, I've tried to grill some steaks few days later and as soon as I open the lid or fire it up there is this insane amount of sugar/sweet and smoke flavor all inside the grill, grates, lid, kettle. Whatever I cook, even if I just throw some steaks with salt they do taste like sweet and sugar and smoke flavor. I've got rid of that smell and flavor by deeply cleaning it but it takes me like 30-60 minutes to do so. Is there an easy way to do it? What's the right thing to do? do a deep/hard clean after smoking or before grilling? I'm thinking on buying a WSM to cook and leave the kettle just for grills since It's a little bit hard to clean it deeply (water, soap, brush etc) every time I cook on it - do you get this problem as well?
@Viewtoagrill Жыл бұрын
Interesting. If you watch a few of my cooking videos you will see that I clean my grill grates before every use. That helps. Also, are you using kingsford charcoal... lately I have found that kingsford is producing a lot of smoke and leaves an odd flavor... so, I don't use it anymore, I use lump charcoal because it burns cleaner. use a chimney starter to start your fire... not lighter fluid. My suggestion is to watch some of my newer videos, I show the whole grilling process not just the recipe.

Great comparison.....tough choice as each have some great features. So which Grill do you seem to go to the most? (too bad the Weber doesnt have Stainless Steel Top Grate as standard)

How’s the build quality of these newer black version sns kettles? I used to have the grey one but some dumbass stole ot from my driveway????? now I’m thinking of buying this black new version but some say the quality’s not as good? I’m leaning towards a Weber master touch+ sns accessories but I really liked the smoke hole I had on my older sns… thanks in advance..

I do have a question about some Weber accessories, I don't think you have a video on this but what are your thoughts on the Weber charcoal fuel holders vs the Weber charcoal heat controller? I feel you get to use more real estate on the grill with the charcoal heat controller what are your thoughts?
@Viewtoagrill Жыл бұрын
I do not have the heat controller. Judging by the pictures it does open up a lot of real-estate om the grate.

I wouldn't say other comparisons are incorrect. I like seeing the difference in price point and features. What would this product give me at this price point if forgo some features? More features doesn't necessarily mean advantage either if you don't actually need or use them. I bought a jumbo joe and it comes with a bunch of drawbacks and I could have bought a bigger more feature rich grill but I wanted small with less parts to maintain and be able to just throw into my car. This isn't a gripe against comparing almost identical products with a similar price point, that's part of the process as well. I looked at grills, then j look at small and big grills, then I looked gas or solid fuel, then I looked at only solid fuel, then I compared all the similar ones. This video is where a person would be when they're about to purchase. It isn't the only "correct" comparison video.

What are your thoughts between the 22" and 26" Weber? What is the difference in how many ppl can be easily fed with each?

Hello Borris. For me the main difference the size of protein you can get in. For instance the size of brisket or a large turkey. The number of small pieces if protein is not an issue. I can cook 30 hamburgers on a 22 just as well as a 26.

Any idea why Weber wouldn’t offer a model with the two holes already drilled and porcelain coated so users have the option to use a thermo controlled fan and avoid crimping probe leads? They could also modify their grate support to allow the grate to spin 360. Those improvements would support modern smoking technology and techniques without making a nod to SnS baskets. Seems Weber could crush SnS with those simple improvements.
@Viewtoagrill Жыл бұрын
Weber had the oportunity to do this way before the SnS kettle. Folks were making these modifications to kettles since the slow n sear basket hit the market. not sure why the never capitalized on this .
@JamesCAsphalt8Ай бұрын
This is not comparing apples to apples. SNS makes a gril comperable to the weber Performer. Well, maybe that's something new. I see this video is a year old. But the Deluxe model looks just like the performer now. Thank you very much for pointing out that the weber is designed to put the baskets on oposite sides and so the thermometer is not "in the wrong place." Every time I hear someone say that the thermometer is on the wrong side I think, "this person must be using an SNS and so, they have that impression.
@ViewtoagrillАй бұрын
This was the best comparison at the time it was released now, SnS has a more comparible model. I agree, if you are using the SnS basket then you would think the thermometer is in the wrong place. Take care James, thanks for watching.

I have a Performer and there's a few things I would like to share about what I like and don't like as well: The newer Weber Performers have P Shaped bottom vents, and the ash collector has markings on it that tell you precisely how to set the vents to only allow air through the circle of the P, which is perfect for low and slow. It also has a marking for half and fully open. I never had trouble ever with air escaping from the top vent on my weber. It sits snuggly and its contoured to the lid. The lid bale for the Performer is really nice...most of the time. You literally roll the lid off to the side and you don't have to worry about trying to hook it to the side of the bowl. However, the screws that hold the lid bale to the bowl stick out past the grates, so you have to take the lid off at an angle to remove it. This doesn't seem like a big deal until you go to try to just lift one side of the grates for one reason or another during a cook, and you end up having to take everything off and remove the grate to do what you need to do (not that this happens often, but happened to me at least once.) I have the baskets but I barely use them. I have no desire for a slow n sear or drip pan either. It's a waste of money. I just use a couple fire bricks (regular bricks would honestly work just fine too, they will just deteriorate faster) to block off my direct side from my indirect side. This is in my opinion way better than a slow and sear because if lets say i want my direct side to be a little bigger or a little smaller, I can control that. where as if you are using baskets or a slow and sear it is what it is. As far as a drip pan, why bother? use some tinfoil to line your indirect side and put down foil pan under your protein if you want. Or if you want to add a little moisture to the cook, a meatloaf pan full of water placed on the grates near the direct side does a better job than that tiny trough on the sns. I don't like the GBS grates. I want to take that little circle insert and fling it to the moon! If's a freaking grill. I'm not going to buy a wok or a griddle or anything like that to stick smack dab in the middle of the grill. If I want to fry something on the grill ill use a cast iron frying pan right over the grates. that insert is 99.9% useless and its a pain in the ass when you want to just hang your grates off the side of the grill while cleaning the bowl out or setting up your cook. As a work around I took key rings and looped them between 2 sides of the insert and the grates so the insert doesn't go flying when I hang the grate on the side of the table, but it still is an annoyance. I would prefer it if the hinged openings would just be bigger. The other mod I did is I took an angle grinder to the bottom side of the grate handles to make it smooth and it spins much easier now. That's 2 min of work that was totally worth doing. Weber should really just make those flush like the SnS grates. I wish that the thermometer was on the same side as the top vent and much closer to the grill grates. Although this is no longer a big deal because I bought a wifi meat thermometer that does the internal temp of the meat as well as the ambient temp. This is the ONLY accessory I suggest anyone drop their hard earned money on. If you are going to blow an extra $150 don't waste it on the slow n sear and the drip pan. spend it on a good meat thermometer instead. I can check my grill and meat temps while I'm at 7/11 buying ice or even better, I can start a brisket at 12 AM, go to bed, and if my temps dip or spike get alerted. I also put a gasket around the bottom of my lid and that almost completely stopped any smoke from leaking through the bottom of the lid. Honestly still not sure if this significantly improved efficiency or anything, but it feels better not seeing any smoke come out from places it shouldn't on slow cooks. One last thing. I prefer to use lump charcoal because it burns cleaner and it makes the food taste better than briquettes. There can be some really small pieces in lump though, and they tend to fall through the charcoal grates. To remedy this, just buy or garbage pick (what I did because I am cheap) a second charcoal grate and put it down perpendicular to the current grate. works like a champ!

Some great observations here. There is one thing I want to point out though, If you go to the weber website weberinc.sjv.io/ORdMRn and take a look at the pictures of the Performer... blow them up and you don't see the additional markings on the ash collector, it looks exactly like mine. Through another video I posted I learned the the Europe verision of the Peformer is like you describe... and the US version is like mine... not sure how true that is, but if you check out the link in this comment you will be able to see the ash collector assembly is like mine. And obviously I dissagree about what you say about the SnS insert. I think it is the best accessory for the weber kettle... I have a video that I posted explaining why(posted last year). Anyway, I enjoyed reading your post. Take care!

I’ve had similar feelings about SNS. I did buy the accessory a few years back for my Weber kettle, which is a copy of another product (Smokenater) with a few differences. Concept is the same. Also, Dave P. seems a bit, ummmm, unlikable, so there’s that too. I would probably just default to my fire bricks in the Weber for a separator now.

Now I can’t say anything personal about the owner of SnS whom I have never met, but I don’t like the copying. This is the problem SnS faces...there's nothing wrong with the Weber kettle. It's iconic for a reason....it's literally a great grill. So why copy it? The vast majority of kettle buyers will never abandon Weber.
