I believe modern steering wheel leather are coated. While a magic eraser may work it's perhaps too aggressive and may take off that layer. My recommendation is to do it super lightly if you do do this method. I prefer gyeon leather cleaner.

Don’t forget to use leather conditioner!! This method really works but it dries out the leather and can make it crack from the sun.

Using that magic eraser can actually damage the leather because it’s basically sanding off the oil, grime, and the leather. That actually works but for many uses I do not recommend.

Great concern! but don’t worry! You can’t “sand off” leather. You can roughened leather, which is actually how you make suede. But that requires using an actual abrasive. That being said, you can potentially remove the tanning (color) from the leather if you work it too hard with the eraser. But that also depends on the quality of tanning and age of the leather. In most cases it’s totally fine but that’s why I recommend testing first. Been using this on all my cars for years. Never had an issue. I also do leather working in my spare time so I’m confident *enough 😂

@@alban23iibraim44 Leather is supposed to have a matte texture when it’s bare. The “shine” on a steering wheel is from dirt/oil build up. That’s why armorall leaves that nasty oily residue. You can use a leather conditioner like Lexol or saddle cleaner. Not sure what you mean by “grumpier”. I’m assuming bumpier? If that’s case, the leather is damaged from age and or ware. Also, some manufacturers didn’t use leather for steering wheels. Some would use plastic/foam mold (GM mainly).

The eraser seems to be about the only thing that seems to get the pores of the leather open and the crap off of it. It's mildly abrasive but probably no more than a funky terrycloth towel

Try it on the bottom back of steering wheel where no one could see. Give it a few swipes and see. I just did a Tesla Model 3 and it looks AMAZING

I think I used some dollar store brand. But any brand will do. The name brands may last a little longer, that’s my guess.
