I have big manzanita bushes up in the hills wear I live. I don't know if there are first kinds or if all manzanita is the same. They get as big as my pickup. I thought about going up there an putting a chain around the base an pulling one out of the ground. I am thinking you only use the roots. Is that correct.

I am not an expert on this issue but I believe they are protected in certain U.S. states so I would check laws in your local area. I have purchased mine at my LFS, where I have only seen the gnarled and twisted branches for sale. There are also sites online that sell it.

@@FishLoft thank you I never thought about that.

Where do you get your driftwood?
@FishLoftАй бұрын
Usually at my LFS so I can see exactly what I will get, but I have ordered some driftwood on ebay and amazon.

Charles, have you experienced tannins decreasing the pH levels in your aquariums? I've considered adding them, but I have heard they can lead to nutrient deficiencies for plants and aquatic life. I don't want to tank my aquariums by improperly adding tannins.
@FishLoftАй бұрын
Tannins provide many benefits to most aquariums. They may lower the ph slightly, which is generally beneficial to most aquariums, but you would need to add a lot of driftwood to see any large changes. Continue to check your water parameters to make sure nothing goes awry and enjoy your tank. Good luck!

Sounds to me like you don't like the look of the water.

Everyone has different likes, I know a lot of folks like dark water tanks. Thanks for the comment!

The use of driftwood and catappa leaves are a must in my 30 gallon betta sorority. I have been using tannins for many years. I respectfully disagree with you.

I have driftwood in most of my tanks for the beneficial effects, I just lessen the look of the brown water.
