This video was unplanned. I ran into a problem while replacing the lower transmission mounts on my 2005 Acura TSX Automatic. I figured I will make a video to help others that may be doing this job or considering doing it.
Socket sizes you need for the job are: 10mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm
First Generation ACURA TSX OEM Service Manual
drive.google.c...
Be very careful not to strip bolts or nuts. Here's what I used to remove the stripped nut:
Irwin Stripped Bolt Extractor
amzn.to/2u5fv18
I purchased OEM Transmission mounts from Delray Acura online because they take Paypal, have good prices, and the website is easy to use. Transmission mounts are in the "Engine Mounts (AT)" section.
www.acuraoempa...
The two lower mounts are specified "front right" and "rear right". The upper mount is called "transmission mounting upper". You can find them under the Engine Mounts section at DelRay Acura. They are numbers 11, 12, and 13 at this link
www.acuraoempa...
You can check the mounts by using a floor jack. Insert a piece of wood between the floor jack and the engine/transmission, then jack up the engine/transmission and look to see if the rubber in the middle of the mounts is separating. The rubber needs to hold the whole mount together with no separation. There are three transmission mounts and three engine mounts. To check the transmission mounts, lift under the transmission. To check the engine mounts, lift under the engine.
If you use aftermarket mounts you will still deal with vibrations because aftermarket mounts don't perform the same as OEM mounts. I don't recommend aftermarket mounts, but if you want to go that route you can find after market transmission mounts on amazon too.

Glad to be able to help out! I'd say the transmission mounts and the front engine mount are trickiest of all for the DIY-er. The rear and side engine mount are relatively easy.

Hi Miguel, can you tell us why you decided to replace your transmission mounts? I do have a 2006 TSX and would like to know what are the symptoms to look for that might result in replacing such. Thank you for posting this video.

After about 10yrs or 100k mi the OEM engine and transmission mounts should be checked for replacement. My car was over 100k and over 10yrs so I knew to keep an eye on the mounts cause they were all the original ones. One of the symptoms that led me to look into it was engine vibrations at idle. I did an oil change, replaced air filter and cleaned the Throttle body to eliminate those maintenance items as possible cause of the vibrations. It helped on the first couple of days, but by the end of the week it still had vibrations on idle. I grabbed a pry bar and lifted the transmission near the lower transmission mounts and noticed the rubber was broken on one. You can't tell just by visual inspection on the lower ones, but the top one I was able to visually see it was broken.

The car has three engine mounts and three transmission mounts. Based on the age of the car and mileage I figured if I am going to do two transmissions mounts I might as well do the third as well for peace of mind and easy of replacement. I won't have to think about those mounts for another 7 to 10yrs or another 100k mi.

With regards to the engine mounts, You can't really check them with a pry bar cause the engine is heavy. I replaced the passenger side engine mount and noticed it was still good (still replaced anyways for peace of mind). I replaced the front engine mount and it was broken and no longer dampering any vibrations. I noticed the vibrations were significantly reduced with replacing the front engine mount. Now I just have to replace the rear engine mount and the car should be as good as new. I will be replacing the rear mount in about a week.

Its been an interesting experience replacing the mounts on the car. The car feels smoother the day after replacing the mounts, almost like new...then over time youll feel vibrations again, but in a different location and different intensity. Its like the vibrations move to the older mounts and eventually they wear out faster cause its the weakest link the group. I have the OEM service manual, but there are no instructions in the book for replacing the engine and transmission mounts.

Thanks for this. Yesterday I changed all 3 mounts except transmission mounts. Now I'm having heavy idle vibration when in reverse gear at stand still when AC is on. When AC is off no vibration at idle. The mounts changed arent OEM but they are said to be good aftermarket with great reviews. We will change the transmission mounts and see if vibration minimizes.
@ChavezDIY
@ChavezDIY 4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. The AC puts a load on the serpentine belt and will make your car vibrate a lil more, seems to be a normal occurrence for 4 cylinder vehicles. I hope changing the transmission mounts nets you an improvement. Other things that can cause an engine to feel rough on idle is the need for an oil change. I use full synthetic and change it every 6k mi or 6 months (whatever comes first) and I notice that the car vibrates more when the engine oil is dirty.
@kollegeman1
@kollegeman1 4 жыл бұрын
@@ChavezDIY I never had that vibration on old mounts when in reverse. Old mounts had alot of Knocks on any hard pavement that I drive. Old mounts gave no vibration or rough idle. All that came right after new mount install except for tranny mount. Last oil change, yes full synthetic high mileage was Feb. Due to quarantine, I drove less for march/April. So im extending the service. Oil still looking good as new. I usually do every 4mths.
@ChavezDIY
@ChavezDIY 4 жыл бұрын
@@kollegeman1 If the vibrations only occur when in reverse, maybe replacing the transmission mounts will help or the transmission fluid needs service. But if you have vibration at idle with new mounts, that could be that the new engine mounts are stiff and transferring all the engine vibrations to the body of the car. The OEM front engine mount has fluid inside and there's a vacuum line that goes attached to it. Other things that can lead to a rough idle is a dirty throttle body, dirty air filter, and dirty fuel injectors.

Update... All mounts were replaced during quarantine 2020. Eliminated vibration. They are aftermarket so the car is not as quiet at idle as it would be with the old genuine mounts. Definitely quiet with AC off though.

what your recommendation Acura original parts or Aftermarket for this job..thank you
@ChavezDIY
@ChavezDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Good question. Depends on how long you plan to keep that car. If you want it to last another 10 years OEM is the way to go. But if you plan to keep it 3yrs or so and let go of the car after that, aftermarket is fine. When my car was 10 years old I would still use OEM parts, but now that its going into 16yr old territory, I see if I can save money on aftermarket parts as long as the part/company has a good reputation. Right now I'm having a problem with my axles. I wouldn't buy new aftermarket axles though. I am trying to rebuild some OEM axles with OEM parts from the salvage yard.

When I start my base auto for the first time every day and I put it in drive it makes a thunk noise. As long as the car is warm it never makes the noise again throughout the day when I put it into drive, could that be a motor mount issue?
@ChavezDIY
@ChavezDIY 2 жыл бұрын
It's difficult to say. It could be the mounts, but the best way is to check the transmission mounts yourself. For the upper mount, youll need to remove the air intake and maybe battery. For the lower transmission mounts, you need to lift the transmission with a floor jack from under the transmission. What you are looking for is separation of the rubber, are there cracks that open up and separate the mount into pieces. Do the same with the engine mounts.

Did this fix engine shaking at idle with ac on I'm having issues with motor shaking when stop at light with ac on
@ChavezDIY
@ChavezDIY 4 жыл бұрын
I didn't have shaking that is specific to the AC on at a stop light, so I can't say if that is going to be your fix. When you turn on your AC, the compressor pulley puts a load on the belt. So there is always going to be a slight increase in engine vibration when you turn on your AC in a 4 cylinder vehicle, that's normal. I get a little bit of vibration, but not a lot to the point where it bothers me. Look into your belt tensioner and pulleys to see if any bearings are noisy and wobbly. You can also see your belt and pulleys (when the engine is on) and look for wobbling of the belt or pulleys.

My car clicks when shifting to park or reverse. Could it be the transmission mounts?
@ChavezDIY
@ChavezDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Its hard to say if its related to the transmission mounts. My car has a light click and slight delay when its warmed up and I shift from park to drive. Probably signs of normal wear and tear. You can check the transmission mounts by wedging a prying bar between the transmission and subframe and prying up on the transmission. If the rubber mounts separate from itself its time to replace them. On normal mounts youll get some stretching but no separation of the rubber in the mount from the metal that holds the rubber together.

Have you done the one in the front yet?
@ChavezDIY
@ChavezDIY 5 жыл бұрын
Hi. By the front, are you referring to the engine mount at the front of the car? Yes I have replaced that engine mount. Its a tight spot so you'll have to remove the radiator fans and coolant reservoir to get access. The lower radiator hose can get in the way, but you can try with the hose in the way. If you can't do it with the radiator hose in the way, you'll have to drain the radiator and use pliers to slide the clip so you can remove the lower radiator hose at the radiator side. It is very important to do a proper bleeding of the air bubbles in the radiator when you refill the radiator. If you don't, your radiator will bust a seam and leak...don't ask how I know, haha. Lastly there is a thin vacuum line under the front engine mount, make sure to disconnect and reconnect it on the new mount. The vacuum line helps with dampering engine movement.

@ChavezDIY
@ChavezDIY 7 ай бұрын
@@joseosminoficialjesusiskin6304 All mounts work together to absorb vibrations, but the front engine mount is the most important one. The OEM front engine mount is filled with hydraulic fluid and has a vacuum line underneath. Hasport mounts are for performance and by nature will transfer all the engine vibrations throughout the chassis of the car. High performance in mounts and suspension usually means stiffer, but ride comfort suffers as you will feel more vibrations.

There are three transmission mounts. Replace them only if they're broken. Use your jack to lift the transmission from bottom and see if they're broken. Also check your engine mounts the same way. Spray water on the rubber part of the mount and you will be able to see any cracks that way...if the mounts separate at the cracks when you lift the engine with the jack, you need to replace them.
