Thank you for subscribing. When it comes to spinning reels, the only ones I use are mainly for bait fishing and stripers but occasionally with the striper reels I’ll switch over to cats on them days. Shimano ultegra 5500 size and 10000 I have put through the ringer and they are still going strong. Also in the past I used to really like using the Shimano bait runner reels for cats

PTFE is Teflon, which would reduce friction and in turn reduce heat.

It’s not the easiest to tear down and clean that’s for sure. Other models are way easier. I tried to put the more simple things in this video that can be done to improve this reel

I have the ambassadeur 7000i without the level wind. I dunno how hard those are to work on but thankfully they are working great for now lol.

7000 size might be different I’m not 100% on that, been a little while since I’ve ripped some reels apart and bought parts. You can get them on eBay.

Great video. I am actually ordering a ABU 7,000. Your video was great info for me. But... DO you have a link to where I can order all the upgrades you mentioned in your video for it. I figure I might as well go ahead and do the upgrades you di so I do not have to later. I have saved your video in my list so I can watch it more as I do my upgrade

I honestly recommend a Akios 757 over this real, they are way easier to work on. But you can find the parts through Mike’s reels or eBay

I was guessing were it was a flat jawl style it would b like the 70s back flat jaw i got a 6500 that has no bait alert and a 5500 ad flat jaw no drag u gotta work it with the line but there exalint i put bigger cranks on them seemed like it spead uo a lil there fairly slow but still dandy cat reels ive never wore out a garcia or a millionaire diawa i really like booth but they are a china brand that saw the good oppratunity to sale reels and for once china made a fine reel but they started using cheaper stuff i landed a 50 inch tiger muskie it pilled the plastic geers were it had a lil play it aloud it to give and it burnt it flat up so now i dont use the newer diawas but i like the old ones but im ready to set a date to start slinging cut baits hopfully next wendsday

Nice video you the man I got a 7000ct last year was surprised how smooth it was but it was pretty warm when I got it them hot days probably warmed up the extra grease last time I took one apart a older 6500 c3 about 3 years ago still sitting on the shelf lost or forgot to put a piece in I'm sure it could be fixed. I was curious have you ever used like a avet I have a avet mxj 5.8 and wondered your opinion?

I’m not familiar with that brand. But I have heard really good things about it. I just recently purchased a Akios shuttle CT type so I’m getting ready to learn that thing (non levelwind)

Have u had any problems with the 6600 i didnt no if u used them it seems like the swish made 6500 are for sure better but i really like the new thumb lever on the spoll but ive had problems out of the new bait alert swicth and slipping when being retrieved

I only use the 6500s. I’ve never had a problem with a 60 600. I do have a couple 6000s and they are the good old ones from Walmart, many years ago and I just rebuilt them. They turned out real nice.

When you cut the plastic retainer off the level wind, i think it is called, wheel. What size e-clip do you use to put back on? Thanks

Cog wheel. Not sure the exact size, but if you look them up on eBay, you will have no problem finding them or googe eparts and look up your model, real easy to find the little c clips.

Same one will fit the handle just so you know you might wanna look up handle C clip for your model

Did the white gear have a C clip on it before you cut around it

No they have a beveled rim that holds them on originally. At the C clip has to be added afterwards

Sometimes I get them from HP bearings, you can find them on eBay. They have real nice stuff

Mikes reels also. The bearing size for the spool is different on each side. If that’s what you want please refer back to an old video where I upgraded this reel and you’ll find the correct size there, sorry I don’t know it offhand right now

Do you do repairs or upgrades for people? Like say if they live in another state and ship the reel to you and give you money for you work and money for it to be shipped back? I'm trying to learn how to do it all myself but there isn't any shops or people I know that do it. And I know you do good work and you are a stand up guy.

How much do you think a service like this cost? I would like to treat my father and get his reels cleaned/upgraded because he can no longer work on them but I’m too nervous to mess something up myself. I’ve been looking around locally but no luck yet

Two size bearings on the spool for that reel. I’m out fishing right now and I don’t know right off hand but I measured them in the last video I made about that fishing reel if you care to go back and look at it

I hate to say it because I love their products but this one I do not like. Wasn’t satisfied with the quality at this year. Maybe the ones before, I have plenty of 6500 and I absolutely love them. If I’m going with a bigger fishing reel right now I’ve been using Akios 757. Top-notch quality my opinion. If you look back several videos you’ll see I did a upgrade on one, actually on the river right now using them. Good for if you need to use mono and a lot of it
