wow, this is incredible. I run into all 4 of these scenarios all the time. In fact, I think videos like this in the future would be great; "trouble shooting the most common _____"
@JonThomasBJJ2 жыл бұрын
Yeah they are the most common responses the guy can have for sure.
@bekirylmaz93052 жыл бұрын
That is a complete closed guard attack system for beginners. But giving these with all possible scenarios and all counters to all possible responses and hand fights posture breaks all together is awesome. Thanks. I like the way how you formulized the any concept as a whole with all possible scenarios with so many leverage tricks and details as a system. You are some kind of a BJJ engineer :D
@JonThomasBJJ2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much buddy. I have a degree in mathematics so I think that’s where the organized mine comes from. I would also say this is a great system for beginners but honestly it works at a very high level too, I have still used all this stuff s black belts.

@@JonThomasBJJ I am definitely seeing improvements in BJJ instruction from guys like you Jon. It's one thing to be able to do a thing ( most black belts ) and quite another to be able to communicate how to do it. It's notable that guys like you, Lachan Giles and others who seem to be taking instruction to the next level are highly educated. I guess Ryan Hall was one of the first ( engineering dropout ) and John Danaher too but his style is so pretentious as to be a complete turn off for me ( I would use the Japanese term for "turn off" if I knew it ).

Could not agree more about your system being the winning ingredient and not just the individual techniques. As I always teach; "if you lost it, don't chase it, deal with what you have available"
@MegaSerioussam Жыл бұрын
This is a great base system that can be added to and developed to start realising your game. You should think about a sweep system from here too. Then go to the mount and look at a system from there. Develop an attacking system and so on. Then drill and practise so that when you roll no matter where you end up you have a system to deal with the position and what you are trying to achieve. This lesson is way more valuable than most people will realise I imagine.

This is what I have been trying to figure out myself blindly as a beginner. People love to show one technique here and there, but its hard to incorporate that into your existing knowledge base. This system based approach where what you do is based on your opponent is definitely the way to go

Jon, thank you for the video sequence. I started BJJ a year ago with the wrong mindset. I tried learning too much too fast. I did not stay on one sequence long enough to understand much. The learning curve quickly discouraged me. I gave up and stopped training for 6 months. I have recently started back with a different mindset. If i can focus and learn one sequence every 2 weeks i will have 26 sequences at the end of 12 months. I have watched this video a hundred times over the last week. It was a lot to follow at first, but i have worked it for a solid week and it is becoming easier to work now. I look forward to starting the next sequence in a week or so once this one becomes second nature. Thank you for what you do.

Yeah it’s hard to always get the right mix. Hard thing with teaching is I have to assume certain pre knowledge when making a video, so I always have to think of the target audience for that video.

Coach Thomas, I'd like to ask u, It is worth to learn reverse kimura grip from closed guard or better to pay more attention to usual submissions like armbar, triange, omoplata? Btw I find its quite difficult to fight in close guard against heavier bigger people when they double push to armpits they can't open my guard, but I almost can't efficiently attack them either.

At my gym we teach "all the way down or all the way up", meaning that if you can't control your own posture in closed guard you should both adopt the arm pit grip and also bury your head in their chest. If the opponent adopted that position, would you just wait for them to sit back before pushing on the biceps and pummeling as in the video?

When I break peoples posture, I had a wrestling guy put his head on my belly button and hide his hands kinda like under my butt almost trying to Khabib me. My most success has kinda been omoplatas but he outweights me and he so low on my legs its so much weight to crunch and bring his weight towards and up over myself I really have to work it. Any ideas?

it sounds so easy when you say it. My brain stops when im rolling and I cant think of what to do. It looks simple when you show it but when i actually recognize that Im in one of these position I cant think of the specifics of exactly what to do. How do i recall this information while Im rolling?
@JonThomasBJJ2 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy watch my video about analysis paralysis when rolling. You need to isolate each sub position and specific train from there it’s easier for your brain to process. So for example to specific training starting from the overhook position, then the collar grip position, then the arm across body position. Then do training from closed guard where your opponent has to take one of those specific grips only and fight from there to set up the attack position. You need to break jiu jitsu down by parts.
