After playing for 6 years now… I’ve hit a plateau where my ‘old’ habits weren’t helping anymore. I’ve started doing research and now I’ve realized these are very bad habits that I’ve learned and because of this I haven’t seen any progress no matter how long/hard I practice. 😅 Everything I was taught is wrong, but not in the sense that it was incorrect but more of I was too young to understand exactly what my teachers meant! and wasn’t taught the correct techniques right away as a kid! Now I’m relearning and getting back to practice! (bc of the pandemic I didn’t play for 2 school years as an ensemble) Relearning and creating new habits and instilling new fundamentals! Thank you so much for this!!!

god the discussion on anchor tonguing finally explained the exact issue i’ve been having my entire life when i had directors critique my articulation, i have anchor tongued from the very beginning and tongue effectively with the middle of my tongue

Hi, Congratulations on the postings on articulation. I would like you to post a video teaching to play the Ghost tongue. I find it very difficult to play the Ghost tongue. How should I play? Practice? Thanks

Thanks Claudio. Do you mean ghost tongue like Clifford Brown? I will do my best! Thanks for the suggestion. It's a strange thing you do with your tongue that I stumbled on in high school. I will try to describe how to do it in a video.

We know you use a yamaha 14b4 mouthpiece... excellent mouthpiece too often discredited. But what trumpet do you use?

I have played my Bach LR180s43 (large bore lead pipe) for 30 years. I had it replated a couple of years ago and it’s like brand new!

Yes but I’d like to know at least close enough each Vowel representation of each tonguing exercise that completes the scale...like tata tête-etc. that completes scale. I personally can only generate 3 open sounds I am running out of imagination to complete the exercise

Hi Willy, I wish I could tell you exactly what the syllables are but they are different for each individual. It tends to be a path of self discovery with lots of trial and error. Keep trying new things as far as vowel sounds and tongue placement is concerned. Bottom line, if it sounds good, feels good, and looks good......it's probably good! Best of luck to you!

Unfortunately I wear top and bottom dentures so I find I can't feel my tongue arching

Try whistling, if you can, a low note. Then, slur up to a high note. That is the tongue arch. See if that helps.
