Something I'd like to add to this guide - use the saw traps on this level! This is most noticeable at the start with the mancubuses when you don't have your rocket launcher yet, but it also trivializes the first whiplash encounter. When you first drop down you can just backtrack to the first area with the saws (you'll only have two shield soldiers in the way and have plenty of time to kill them before the first whiplash catches up.) You can then just camp at the far end of the hallway and kill all the whiplashes with the saw trap easy.

I like the guide, but theres a couple things I learned to do a little differently. You dont have to use any chainsaw in the hallway with the swinging axe traps. Its very easy to just let the mancs walk into the trap and kill them instantly with one shot. Instead of picking up the second weapon mod for the shotgun in hell on earth, I wait until the end of the level, and fast travel back to pick up micro missiles for the heavy cannon. Its super nice to have the utility of the sniper scope in a few places, especially in exultia, but you dont have to sacrifice the "ohshit button" that is the micro missiles. Also as far as weapon mods go, if you are on PC, the cooldown on the heavy cannon sniper, and the reload speed on the shotgun grenades are quite pointless, since quickswapping resets both of them. I get a LOT of use out of the increased area of the sticky bombs later on.

Cultist Base Ultra-Nightmare Personal difficulty rating: 9/10 All mortally challenged personnel, please be advised that you are an actual threat The Cultist Base is an interesting level. With the Ultra-Nightmare difficulty, it's an asylum. The problems with this level boil down to all the tricks and traps that the demons play on you. Not only that, it introduces three demons that are big threats to your underpowered Slayer: Mancubi, Whiplashes, and Lost Souls. They're not easy to contend with. At the very least, you acquire both the Rocket Launcher and Super Shotgun. The Revenant area is not an issue. That thing is crazy powerful and pretty resilient. The problems for me have to do with how tightly confined many rooms are and how they flood them with heavy demons. I especially hated the fire wall area. Even with the Cueballs, it was a real butt-clencher. And the Lost Souls hiding in the boxes were trolls. The platforming was really easy. Being a man who's played Mario all his life, this caused no issues. I decided to get the Rocket Launcher's Remote Detonation mod. That's got lots of good utility. I saved as many Weapon Points to almost fully upgrade the Super Shotgun so I could get the Flaming Hook ASAP. Preator Tokens were used for mobility and hot swap, while the crystal got me more health and my rune of choice was Dazed and Confused. But the hordes of demons are still relentless. I nearly died at the base's entrance gate and before the train. In conclusion: Deag Ranak's first base is a madhouse. The game isn't letting up in any way, shape, or form. The developers are endlessly pouring gas over your burning body. This match is definitely far from won.

I play Doom Eternal on my Xbox One X. For my first run through the game, I played it on ultra-violence. I struggled a couple of times, especially with my first encounter with the Marauder and the fight with the icon of sin. Yet I stuck with that difficulty, and managed to beat it. Being a long time Doom fan, I was proud of myself.

They’ve identified that “no target” results from trying to chainsaw during traversal animations. If you watch, the Manc was still in the landing frames of its jump/level change animation when he went to chainsaw. You’re right, the mechanic shouldn’t have that limitation. But if you know how it’s broken, you’re more likely to avoid it screwing you.

Hey cynic its me from your previous videos, I have a strategy that will make it easier to kill the arachnotron and get the challenge done, now this might be a little complicated but try and follow along, blood punch him...thats it and the blood punch will destroy the arachnotrons turret, also doom hunter base really isnt that hard because at that point you have the super shotgun the rocket launcher and that alone is enough to let you breeze through the stage.

@@originalcynic some strategies that I found useful with doom hunter base is on the second fight go onto to jump pad immediately and you the freeze grenade on the pinky then super shotgun its tail, no more enemies heavy demons will spawn until you get rid of the fodder, once you do that a hell knight, a revanent and a pinky will spawn. use lock on burst for the hell knight and the revanent and use a blood punch on the pinky, a arachnotron will spawn near the entrance to the fight, sticky bomb or precision bolt its turret and then a lock on burst will either kill it or put it into a glory kill state. after that the hell knight that I forgot to mention that spawned should be pretty close to you so just use another lock on burst to take it down. near the exit a mancubus will also spawn, use a freeze grenade on the macubus and that should give you enough time to use the quick switching technique and rocket laucher--->super shotgun it until it dies. the final heavy demon is the whiplash. just use the lock on rockets to kill it. Then you can clean up the fodder and the battle is over. this strategy works best if you know where every heavy demon spawns and you know when to chainsaw and deal with the fodder.

Also for anyone who’s not the most confident start another save slot in nightmare mode and play the level once or twice (loading checkpoints and doing the very difficult fights again). Then if you can play through the level good enough then try it on ultra nightmare. It’s a great way to study the spawn points and make your own strats. Working like a charm so far, especially dealing with cacodemons. And I know it might be annoying but it’s best to play on ultra right after you beat it on nightmare, so your memory is still fresh from just playing the same level.

For the pit fight there is a hollow area inside the middle pillar you can use for cover as well as a shortcut to get to the otherside if you are cornered by the demons. Makes that fight much easier.

here's my strategy that i do all the time on UN. First I scoot the mine towards the mid-end of the arena so you don't blow yourself up, then start the secret encounter. at this point, I have two frag grenades so I throw one down more or less as soon as everything spawns and spam PR + RL + PR + RL. By this this time, one of the whiplashes is dead and sometimes the other one isn't. either way, I quickly switch to the ice bomb and by this time the mancabus is approaching, so I freeze the mancabus and hopefully the whiplash as well. I throw the second frag grenade down and by this point the whiplash is an easy RL shot from death after it falters. Once the mancabus is unfrozen, I just use the microwave beam to cheese it to death or microwave beam + PB + Microwave beam + PB weak points and kill it. hope this helps 👍

DOOM is overrated my method is actually very similar to yours on some parts. I'm really happy to see you had a legitimate strategy for the part after you pick up the rocket launcher, cuz that's where I died 90% of the time (the other 10% was during the big arena fight after the Whiplash introduction, the pit fight, and the final arena fight). What I always do after picking up the SSG is do the mastery challenge as much as possible. I'm usually able to pull this off if I'm careful enough, and I often finish it before I even get to the final fight, which allows me to simply focus on killing everything as fast possible without having to implement the meathook mastery anywhere. Some other things I noticed: 1. After the hardest part (idc what anyone says, Cynic's 100% right about that bit), when you jump up to the coffins after picking up your second rune, there's a Soul sphere just behind it. I sometimes leave this fight with pretty low health and almost no armor (assuming I survive it in the first place), so that sphere comes in extremely handy. 2. During the pit fight, when the Whiplash drops in, I recommend taking out the gargoyles first. There's only two of them and I don't think the ground traps become active at this point yet. You should be able to dodge the Whiplash until you've dealt with her two simps- I mean sidekicks! Then you can deal with the Whiplash. When the Arachnotron drops in, I recommend taking out the gargoyles first as well, but make sure its turret is disabled before doing so. The Arachnotron can still fire grenades at you, but I noticed it just chases me around for a bit. As for the Mancubi, same as what Cynic showed: Cueball one of them, and make sure you have enough chainsaw fuel to immediately kill the other one, although there's no need to panic if you only have 2 pips ready. If you can take out its cannons, it won't be able to harm you as much, allowing you to take it out quickly. Assuming I killed one of the Mancubi with the chainsaw, I like to leave one imp alive while my chainsaw recharges. If I'm low on health and/or armor and there's none left in the center, or if I'm too low on ammo for my comfort, I wait until my chainsaw's refilled, then use it on the last imp. 3. If you're trying to master the meathook as much as possible, like I did, you can meathook lost souls and cueballs as well! I wouldn't recommend trying to meathook all three lost souls in any given group, however, because it doesn't recharge quick enough to prevent one of them from hitting you. Cueballs, however, easiest targets the game can throw at you.

I have died in the Rocket Launcher room more times than I want to talk about. The ONE time I made it past this room, I got all the way to the second secret encounter, watched this video where Cynic says to skip that encounter because it's a very heavy pressure scenario, thought to myself "nah, I think I can handle it", then proceeded to start it and boost right into the Mancubus and got instagibbed. Lesson learned.

Yeh man if you can get past cultist you're golden. I had a really good run where I made it all the way to sentinel prime and sadly lost the run because I'm bad at double dutch. However I learned something helpful from the Doom Discord: you can meat hook the the gladiator while he's doing the jump rope stuff and if you fling yourself up he'll stop doing the jump rope and dash at you, so you can just skip that attack wherever it shows up. It's a little finicky sometimes but it's better than jump roping - hopefully this helps someone out

With the first Mancubi, you can chainsaw the first one and then wait 'till the second one is walking through the trap which is an easy kill. If the third one doesn't glitch you can do the same thing to him.

In the arena after you get the Launcher mod you can run up to the end of the platform and get you precision bolt ready. The Mancubus will jump up onto it's platform and you can take out both of it's arm cannons before it can do anything

At 4:20, theres actually a way to beat that part without wasting a ton of ammo on the mancubi. once you kill the first one, you can hide behind the boxes and wait til both srt in the pendulum trap and kill them with that. It can take out the remaining 2 instantly

So at the pit part… Don’t over think it. That’s my advice. Go army style. Stay back, don’t go into the level so the bars come up. Take your rocket launcher and pick off the far mancubis with five rockets. When there’s a boom and the screen shakes, it’s dead. You’ll want to use the walls as cover. Launch grenades into the pit and double jump to see where enemies are at and wait for grenades to charge. If you get a clear shot, use the rockets on the mancubi. Stay back, let them fight, blow them up until they’re gone. Save a grenade for the cocoademon and you’re set. You’re up high and they’re fat and slow in a pit and they’re dumb when they don’t know what artillery is hitting them. Stay out of view ! It took a little patience but this worked. I had a bad checkpoint at only 20 health and no armor so I couldn’t go in glory kill Rambo like my style is.

In the first arena with whiplashes, you can cheese it by returning to the first arena with Mancubi (make sure to take out the 2 shield soldiers in your way). Tested this strategy on Nightmare; it works extremely reliably.

In the mancubus room , either use grenade launcher and rockets on the one next to you, or precision bolt and rockets on the one on the top if he is not there. stay in the spawn area, and climb back up to were you originally came in. A cacodemon will come up there, so flame belch him for armor and glory kill him as well. take potshots at whoever comes near the spot, and soon they will all be dead.

Learning the PB + Rocket Launcher combo makes this level so much easier. You cab delete all the mancubi in 5 seconds.

The cueballs in the pit are infinite so you can use them for the whiplash, arachnotron, and both mancubi

Finally I managed to get pass the terrible arena in Exultia, now fuckin' whiplashes are what's holding me back to continue and progress.. All the time when I get into that fight, they immediately smash my ass...

If you budget your weapon points and are intentional with picking off fodder, you can immediately max the SSG and dang near complete the mastery before the final arena of the level.

on the 1st manc room heres what i do. hide from the 1st one till they go over the trap then i kill him with it. the 2nd one spawns right on me so i chainsaw it and take care of the rest on the acranotron fight i stick him a bit, bomb him, then blood punch, it honestly gets him so low and blood punch gets the turret if u miss it the one after that i snipe the revanent then drop down and use the trap on the knight i use my weapon points on quick lock on the rockets and the ssg

For the Mancubi I usually just use the traps and keep taping the trigger with the plasma rifle and moving between open field and the box

I like to use the pendulum traps on the first Mancubus at the beginning after sniping off it’s arm cannons with the Heavy Cannon’s Precision Bolt. And on the Hell Knight in the second encounter in the first hallway. Edit: also this is my personal preference, but I like to save up on my weapon points until I get the super shotgun and then spend what I got on that to get the meat hook armor upgrade as fast as possible before I get to Doom Hunter base. Because trust me, your armor will be your best friend, especially on the Doom Hunter boss fight. As well as your plasma rifle, your rocket lock on burst, and your blood punch You’re gonna need it.

I tried a Nightmare extra life mode just to see how I would do. I made it to Doom Hunter Base first try! However, I had lost most of my lives in Cultist Base, made it through DHB's first big train station fight thanks to a pure adrenaline flow state, aaaand then I died to some incidental combat encounter... 🤦‍♂️ lol

Its easy, i didn't try on ultra cause i know that when your life is better the joystick jerks off or stutters. And stoped on nightmare difficulty. The ps4 controller is easy to fix but it's better to just have a stres less life. Nic vid

If you don't spend any weapon points until you get the rocket launcher and super shotgun you will have just enough to fully upgrade a mod and the launcher and the SSG. Then you can use the army of fodder demons in the axe hallway to work towards the SSG mastery. If you utilize enough fodder demons for the SSG mastery after that you can get it before the Doom Hunter.

I farm the mastery for Super in the room where the pinky is first introduced. Take out the pinky immediately, and so long as I watch for revenant lock on its easy to get with infinite fodder spawn. So long as you don't kill the revenants first.

You should definitely not skip the hell gates. They're hard but allow you to quickly get your upgrades. Plus, Cultist Base gate is a good place to max out the SSG meathook challenge. In fact, there are lots of places in this level where you can do it. Done correctly, you can get to Doom Hunter Base with the challenge cleared

i found the easiest way to fight the mancubi that are right after you get the rocket launcher is to circle the arena and shoot rockets at them. it only takes 4 rocket to stun a mancubus so you only need to get ammo twice
