This worked like a charm. Thanks a bunch! Can you do some more videos for HDR content? Finally a video for true beginners. I feel even more motivated to get into more details like RGB settings. Just don't think that can be done without tools and software.

Really like this approach……thanks so much. Note: I am running a Sony VPL-VW325ES projector on a 106” acoustically transparent screen in a fully light controlled room (I use ‘Blackout’ shades). Are there any ‘tweaks’ to your standard approach you would recommend based on my setup? Thanks again
@TheaterAdvice_FCAV Жыл бұрын
No that's the genius of this..it's the same method for all..the numbers will just be different with every projector, screen combo and type of tv. Of course you can go deeper and mess with color temps...gamuts etc if you want to geek out. This one was really an easy "one to rule them all" scenerio

@@TheaterAdvice_FCAV Thanks!Much appreciated. Quick question, I presume it makes no difference whether one is calibrating to SDR vs HDR?
@TheaterAdvice_FCAV Жыл бұрын
@@ts6640 I'd say it's the same but you first would have to do all of the pain in the butt things to make it look good in the first place before messing with this. I'ts mostly an SDR thing.

Stupid advice. You cannot calibrate anything by eye and with non reference pictures. Also in real calibration the the adjustments are done for every gray scale steps (at least 2 point, or 10-20 IRE steps.) not just globally. Better to just get a calibration device + free software and learn the basics. Doesnt cost that much.

I was calibrating my new projector yesterday (I've got a light meter and test patterns etc) and found the easiest way to sort sharpness was to play a medium daylight scene in a wider format than the screen so you have the black bars top and bottom, then you'll see a fine white edge where the bars meet the scene, turn down until they're gone. It's usually low, around 10-20 Sharpness but just means you have that little bit of help on softer edges and SD content than having it completely off.

This is NOT how you calibrate your TV. You are not ISF certified. Those credentials are not for calibrations. Any calibrator would know that it’s Spears & Munsil.
@TheaterAdvice_FCAV5 ай бұрын
It's taught to me by ISF certified guys back in the day...also...I did NOT say it was ISF I said it's as close as you can get with a remote. I can ISF calibrate a tv...don't need to. Nor did I say I was an ISF tech. There are clowns at BB that are ISF cert and know nothing ...lol Big deal. This is a good quick way to get your display looking good out of the box. The video is exactly what it is.
@chuckfriebe8435 ай бұрын
@@TheaterAdvice_FCAV No it’s not. There are test patterns that are easy to use for anyone. When you do things like this, it’s confusing for people that could otherwise watch a video on proper calibration using a disc of proven methods for user calibration. This is a joke.

people found it helpful. I would say if you don’t like the content don’t watch it. I’m going to keep doing what I want to do. It’s almost as if my 25 years experience isn’t worth anything. What are your credentials just wondering?

@@TheaterAdvice_FCAV ISF certified calibrator. 1990 and 2017 and CE courses for new tech. Without equipment, I can calibrate a tv to within 500 kelvin of the standard. We call it a quick and dirty. All I’m saying is, that you should point people in the direction of the tools that are available.
@TheaterAdvice_FCAV5 ай бұрын
@@chuckfriebe843 You can make your own content about that if you want. This particular video was how to get it the best you can with the remote....and it works as exactly that. Good luck with your new ch. I hope people learn how to take it to that next level but that wasn't what this video was about.
