Awwww! There's finger-strengthening and brain-training benefit on playing on a hard flat surface even without a piano! Did plenty of that as a college piano major!

I use it as play along and it helps a lot. It gives me focus and I can directly copy the hand movements of a professional. This is perfect for me at my stage

I love videos like these, I'm picking piano up (admittedly very late in my music journey although I've been around it my whole life), this is an amazing way to learn the instrument, relearn sheet music, and improve my musical abilities across all of the instruments I play. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 I can't wait for the next one!

Soms zie ik hier lesgevers waarbij ze overdreven cirkelbewegingen van arm en pols maken. Dit moet toch erg vermoeiend zijn. Hier bij jou haal ik meer leerstof uit. ❤

I practice 3-4 hours a day and i alternate between Hanon and Major/minor scales. Helps limber my fingers and wrist before i play.

A couple of suggestions. I usually play the Hanon exercises in tenths, not octaves. By playing them in tenths it is easier to make sure the two hands are balanced. It is also a good idea to play each hand separately after playing them together. This will allow a student to make sure each hand is playing evenly. Josef Hofmann had his students play scales and arpeggios with each hand separately for the same reason. Finally, it is better to practice these Hanon exercises on a variety of pianos, some with light actions and some with heavy actions, and some pianos with shallow actions and some that have actions with deep travel. This variety of pianos will greatly help develop keyboard technique and flexibility.

This definitely helps me, and only doing it two weeks so far. trills after the warmup are really good from the off, a bit less tension in the right arm (left is fine anyway), and I make much more relaxed kinds of mistakes now! :-)

I never knew Hanon could be played this way, recently I'm trying to play hanon in diff scales, and its much more challenging than playing only on C major as in the whole book, its only on C major scale. But I think with slow exercise, I will be able to improve it.

Excellent and helpful. As a middle-aged person, I find my back aching when I sit down to play. I attribute it to having to hold my arms out in front of me all day and when I'm at home doing the same, with cooking, and dishes, and picking my kids up. You say sit up straight and don't lean. Do you have a recommendation for how far away from the keys we should be sitting? Some optimal distance so we can hit each note without accidentally leaning?

Wow! Great use of Hanon! How many rythmic vars was that actually? 😂 And this is just the first in C. You vary key every day, but also exercise I guess? Makes this book into thousands of execerises! And making the 'boring' Hanon book fun! 😊 I ended up practise Hanon hand separate, more like a study. Different keys. Also very useful, but it has been a while since now. So, how do you plan? Pick an random exercise, a random key, and then apply the rythmic patterns? Every day routine? Great warmup, can't wait to get on with thiese rythmic patterns as a warmup. I'm picking up Hanon again! Thanks a lot! 🙏

Hello @heartofthekeys I've been following you since a long time. Could you make a video on editing such vlogs and how to set angle like you do, apart from that how to record video from 3 angles at the same time. Apps that you use to merge or make such content. It would be really helpful. :)

Interesting. Were you taught to ‘bounce’ your wrists whilst doing exercises? My teacher ( Royal School UK) taught me to keep a straight line from elbow to wrist ( almost parallel to the floor) and concentrate on even, independent finger movement; almost lifting just from the knuckle joints. No judgement inferred of course.😊
