Normally when you see guys do the transmission pan drops on the 10R80 you see them remove the cooler and everything will that's not necessary and I'll show you how to do that in this video my way

what are your thoughts on DIY transmission service via the coolant line method? remove one line from the radiator run the engine drain one quart then add one quart repeat until clear it seems to work well on older vehicles from late 90's to about 2010's that I've seen on youtube.

im sure the filter is fine, why not just suck out what you can from the dipstick bolt and add what you pulled out. 5 mins and your done. you can do a drain and fill twice in 10 mins. your way seems alittle overboard

The customer wants a mechanic they can keep on their car just like a salesman wants a repeat customer and not let another salesman get their customer. Mechanics need to leave a business card saying ask for me next time if you like my service.

I have a 2022 Ford Transit V6 3.5L and I asked the dealer about when the transmission needs to be serviced. They said at 240,000km… I find this hard to believe because my Yukon with the exact same transmission requires fluid and filter every 75,000km… can you shed some light on this? I know changing the fluid on transit can be a problem due to the sub frame bolts rusting solid to the frame.

Dang brother. I don't know where you are but I'd be willing to travel 200 miles to have you work on my Lincoln Aviator. I once owned a Land Rover and the dealer service was supposed to include a tire rotation but I knew for a fact (due to obvious tread wear) that they didn't do a damn thing. The entire service was $900 and I honestly don't remember what all I had requested but if they couldn't rotate the tires, what else didn't they do? If I had a lift, I would do my own maintenance like when I was a young man. But I'm 57 years old now and it's not the most attractive thing to me at my age. I'd probably drop the car on my head! Anyway I deeply appreciate your work ethic.

Another great video Rich. Question regarding how to change out the fluid. My local Ford dealer does not pull the pan and change the filter. They hook it up to a machine and put in a Valvoline cleaner and suck out the old fluid but never change the filter. Then they simply add new fluid. I was surprised they didn’t drop the pan and change the filter. They said it wasn’t necessary. I opted to have a trusted trans guys drop my pan and do it as you did. Any thoughts on this? Thanks

@FordBossMe
@FordBossMe 2 жыл бұрын
Beaten path So this is where you're thinking is flawed it is a normal procedure to do it that way there is nothing wrong with doing it that way because that filter lasts a very long time The Next Step would be instead of an hour service now you're moving up to a 2.2 hours service and you increase the cost of the repair substantially when you want the pan dropped and the fluid changed and the filter and Gasket replaced so they are not the same service We would flush it the same way as your do it did unless specified the customer wanted the filter and Gasket changed as well then the price would go up substantially because it's going to take me about an additional 1.2 hours
@claytonjustensen9042
@claytonjustensen9042 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply Rich. Honestly, I was surprised that you would recommend doing the same service that my dealer is doing regarding flushing the transmission. I have always heard that flushing a transmission is never a good idea. Especially, on older vehicles. Maybe this flushing process that you and my dealer are recommending is a different process as compared to what others are doing when flushing a transmission? If so, could you explain the difference between the two and why the dealers process is safe to do? Thanks
@cheeznhard
@cheeznhard Жыл бұрын
@@claytonjustensen9042 It is different from the old "flush" way of the past, the dealership uses special machines that heat up and "exchanges" the fluid. As Rich mentioned there's absolutely nothing wrong with doing a transmission fluid exchange (provided it's done at the dealership/shop with the right equipment) With all that being said if I had a truck that had over 100,000 miles on it and the transmission fluid has never been changed I personally would opt to do a pan drop partial fluid change with filter. Being so close to the 150 thousand mile filter life I would want to get that taken care of.

I did have my truck 15 F150 dropped the pan and changed the filter around 67k about 5 years ago. Should I find a shop to do it again or go to local ford dealer around. Most local ford dealer said they dont drop the pan and change the filter, they use the machine; the service is called transmission fluid exchange about 300usd.

The vehicle needs to be up to complete operating temperature and you need to have enough fluid in it while it's hot to be on the dipstick so if it's just if it's not on the dipstick you're not putting the dipstick down in all the way or you need more fluid that's just all there is to it

Excellent. Just did my 6r80 on my 11 6.2 F150. Was sitting for a few days and I got 10 quarts (also cracked the trans cooler lines). 6R80 (I believe) must be at the top of the highest hash at temp. I filled it to the area in between the hashes cold, and it was spot on hot. I did it with no jackstands :lol:. Seems it was serviced 60K ago, but the fluid was dark as night. I have a feeling the previous owner towed judging by the big hitch. I think it is amazing that at 186K the truck has ZERO leaks. But I would say 50-60k is the service interval for the trans. There is a video in German by the ZF (who Ford licenses from) engineers and they suggest that interval, but the manufacturers make their own decisions. They really explain it well here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/emHJZHSPpKpmmas

That pretty nirm6al for LV and ULV, turns black pretty quick, it'll still have some red color on the dipstick where it's spread thin but drained into a pan it looks pretty black. It bothered me when that stuff first came out but it does seem to be doing a great job, and yes changing at 30k to 50k intervals will hell these transmissions last alot longer without little hiccups. Harsh shifts and hanging in gear is very common if you follow the manufacturer interval.

Outstanding video...thank you, Rich. Love the channel. As an owner of a 2021 Ranger FX4 with 7K miles, I would appreciate your recommendation on all fluid service intervals. 50K trans service makes complete sense...thanks for that? Great Video. I do believe the 2017 f150 10r80 is easier as there isnt much to take off other than the pan, but after that they have more parts around it that must be removed. Thanks for the video! Always appreciated.

Ford boss - my 2017 F-150 3.5 with a 10-speed is about to turn 150,000 mi. I've never changed the transmission fluid and currently have no issues. Would replacing the filter and a portion of the fluid, what's in the pan, be a bad idea? I know replacing all of it and doing a flush is definitely a bad idea. Thoughts? Thanks for all you do love your channel.
