what are your thoughts on DIY transmission service via the coolant line method? remove one line from the radiator run the engine drain one quart then add one quart repeat until clear it seems to work well on older vehicles from late 90's to about 2010's that I've seen on youtube.

im sure the filter is fine, why not just suck out what you can from the dipstick bolt and add what you pulled out. 5 mins and your done. you can do a drain and fill twice in 10 mins. your way seems alittle overboard

I have a 2021 Ford Raptor and 55K miles. I really want to change my fluid & filter. I also have the B&M pan with the drain plug I'd like to install. The issue I;'m concerned about is the spec says to check at 206 degrees.... my transmission never reaches that temp unless I'm towing a heavy load and even then it just kisses that temp. How should I go about checking the fluid if I struggle to reach this temp? My last Raptor a 2019 model, I had the Ford dealer change it and both times they overfilled it. The first time it blew out the seals on the highway, the second time it was jumping at highway speeds while spiting some fluid out the vent. As you can imagine, I'm not willing to trust a local shop and just plan on doing the job myself. New subscriber by the way. Awesome video!

Another great video Rich. Question regarding how to change out the fluid. My local Ford dealer does not pull the pan and change the filter. They hook it up to a machine and put in a Valvoline cleaner and suck out the old fluid but never change the filter. Then they simply add new fluid. I was surprised they didn’t drop the pan and change the filter. They said it wasn’t necessary. I opted to have a trusted trans guys drop my pan and do it as you did. Any thoughts on this? Thanks
@TheBeatenPaths2 жыл бұрын
I'd never go back to that dealer for service. But that's me .
@FordBossMe2 жыл бұрын
Beaten path So this is where you're thinking is flawed it is a normal procedure to do it that way there is nothing wrong with doing it that way because that filter lasts a very long time The Next Step would be instead of an hour service now you're moving up to a 2.2 hours service and you increase the cost of the repair substantially when you want the pan dropped and the fluid changed and the filter and Gasket replaced so they are not the same service We would flush it the same way as your do it did unless specified the customer wanted the filter and Gasket changed as well then the price would go up substantially because it's going to take me about an additional 1.2 hours
@claytonjustensen90422 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply Rich. Honestly, I was surprised that you would recommend doing the same service that my dealer is doing regarding flushing the transmission. I have always heard that flushing a transmission is never a good idea. Especially, on older vehicles. Maybe this flushing process that you and my dealer are recommending is a different process as compared to what others are doing when flushing a transmission? If so, could you explain the difference between the two and why the dealers process is safe to do? Thanks
@cheeznhard Жыл бұрын
@@claytonjustensen9042 It is different from the old "flush" way of the past, the dealership uses special machines that heat up and "exchanges" the fluid. As Rich mentioned there's absolutely nothing wrong with doing a transmission fluid exchange (provided it's done at the dealership/shop with the right equipment) With all that being said if I had a truck that had over 100,000 miles on it and the transmission fluid has never been changed I personally would opt to do a pan drop partial fluid change with filter. Being so close to the 150 thousand mile filter life I would want to get that taken care of.

Good afternoon, are they going to have any updates to fix the shudder and shifting issues on the 10 speed auto? I know there are a couple out there, and some have better results than others in regards to effectiveness. Thanks! Our dealer is backed up about 2 months right now, and I was hoping for an over the air update.
@FordBossMe2 жыл бұрын
Adaptive relearn, transmission break in strategy procedure, valve body cleaning and if those things don't work they tear it apart and look to rebuild if it's not the torque converter and that's all I really have for you

Excellent. Just did my 6r80 on my 11 6.2 F150. Was sitting for a few days and I got 10 quarts (also cracked the trans cooler lines). 6R80 (I believe) must be at the top of the highest hash at temp. I filled it to the area in between the hashes cold, and it was spot on hot. I did it with no jackstands :lol:. Seems it was serviced 60K ago, but the fluid was dark as night. I have a feeling the previous owner towed judging by the big hitch. I think it is amazing that at 186K the truck has ZERO leaks. But I would say 50-60k is the service interval for the trans. There is a video in German by the ZF (who Ford licenses from) engineers and they suggest that interval, but the manufacturers make their own decisions. They really explain it well here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/emHJZHSPpKpmmas

That pretty nirm6al for LV and ULV, turns black pretty quick, it'll still have some red color on the dipstick where it's spread thin but drained into a pan it looks pretty black. It bothered me when that stuff first came out but it does seem to be doing a great job, and yes changing at 30k to 50k intervals will hell these transmissions last alot longer without little hiccups. Harsh shifts and hanging in gear is very common if you follow the manufacturer interval.

I have a 2019 F150 2.7 10Speed. Local dealer I bought new from recommends trans flush every 30k miles (I did at 30/60k miles) they didn’t recommend filter change, what do you think? I service my truck religiously, goal to see 300k miles

The filter can go awhile but I'd definitely get it done

I'm about to buy a Ranger with a 10R80. What's your opinion of them? Are they decent? I imagine the 2.3 doesn't put the hurting on them that the 2.7 and 3.5 do.

I don't too much care for the 10-speed transmission they're a little Shifty wonky hunting a lot of people can't get the feel for them but that's just me some people love them
