FWIW, you're installing a nice $400+ aluminum pan. That means you are probably trashing the plastic. So drill a hole in the plastic and let the ATF drain before removing. A lot cleaner!

I was thinking the same thing. And 'if' not trashing the OE pan use a transfer pump to suck most of the fluid out of it through the fill-hole.

2 Questions: 1.) Why can't you drill a hole in the plastic pan right below the filter so you only damage the filter if you break through a little strong. The filter and pan are being replaced anyhow? 2.) I'm not a fan of wearing rubber gloves working on cars but this job looks like an exception. I liked the video and just ordered my BD pan & temperature guage for my F-150. Also I appreciate you giving all the torque specs for the nuts and bolts.

Thanks for your questions... 1)It is not a recommended procedure to drill a hole in your stock pan. As you may want to reuse it at some point etc. but it is totally your choice. 2)I am not really seeing a question here... but as for wearing rubber or nytril gloves, again this would be your choice. Not a requirement. I am sure with a little extra care taken the oily mess would be minimized.

@@BDDieselPerformance ... you could use a transfer pump to draw the fluid out through the fill hole... that would eliminate a lit of the spillage.

How about the FORD Warranty on a Newer Truck?? And a New Plastic Pan is about $120.00.

Still have to drop the pan to change the filter so what difference does it make? Not worth the $$ if you ask me

Adding fluid capacity and cooling efficiency

I’ve always wondered if these would affect the fluid getting to normal operating temps in colder climates. I’m very interested in this product. But during the winter months temperatures drop to -16 to -20 and sometimes -35 to -40 with cold weather warnings.
@roynichols5212
@roynichols5212 28 күн бұрын
It will probably take longer to heat up but will most likely get to operating temp. But im not sure what adding a couple more quarts gives you. It will still get to operating temp so what is the point? The best thing about the pan is the drain plug, but regardless, you will still need to drop the pan to change the filter. Which you should when you change your fluid. Its an expensive drain plug. Another issue is, is the factory skid plate going to fit over it?
@alexander6093
@alexander6093 21 күн бұрын
@ yeah every time I looked at it online, i was thinking about the transmission filter 😂. You would have to be willing to change fluid without change in the filter. But as for the skid plate, I’m pretty sure there’s two versions to this. One is just the regular depth with the drain plug. Other One is the deep dish.
@alexander6093
@alexander6093 21 күн бұрын
And yeah, that’s kind of a very hard question to ask people on the Internet because the kind of conditions I’m thinking of is like -25 to -30. And sometimes on winter roads which I travel every winter season. The temperatures can get down to -35. And sometimes -40 with cold weather warnings.

Damn shame Ford deleted the trans dipsticks... cheap pricks.
@alexander6093

@@hmdwn it’s on there. It’s just really hard to get to. It’s literally right on the transmission. And you have to like loosen the top of the pewny dip stick first with a wrench.

What benefit over the PPR pan does this offer?
@BDDieselPerformance
@BDDieselPerformance 5 ай бұрын
Hey! Thanks for your question. The key difference between ours and the PPR is that the BD pan holds more fluid (2.1 vs. 1.75). The BD pan is listed at 147.05 USD, so it has a lower price point than the PPR pan.

@@BDDieselPerformance I clicked on your link for the pan, list price says: $409.95 USD. Great video, lots of detail. When I changed my fluid, I used a vac pump to pull out as much trans fluid as possible, makes less mess when dropping the pan. I also us a battery operated driver to remove nuts and bolts. Like you I use ratchet and torque wrench to wrap it up. Forgot to mention, the factory trans gasket is made to be reusable.
