Haven't been fishing in years. Just now at a point where I'm starting to put together some rods and build my basic tackle. Stumbled upon the machine here and man I've learned so much in a short time. I really really appreciate these videos that you put the time and effort in to put out Mr. Gene. Now if I can just get out and go apply what I've learned...

I love how knowledgeable he is and how freely he shares that with all of us. I find myself taking notes during these videos. Fishing genius. I hope you enjoyed that moon-pie! Keep up the good work.

Agreed. Get a 7 inch leader with a size 1 or 4 baitholder tied to the leader. Then use a good uniknot tie to main line. Put a moderate sized split shot a 1/4 to 1/2 inch above where leader is tied to main line. Put a nightcrawler on an throw line. Let line settle once line settles pop rod tip led rod settle pop a couple times more let line settle then pop a couple more times let it settle. Then do as slow as you can a 1/2 reel turn then let line settle this rig will get crushed once you find the fish. It's a go to of mine main set up I use when fishing I catch 6 to Sometimes 10 fish each trip. Try it you'll be glad you did. After learning this only lures I have now is 2 small spinner lures so they sink slow and top water lures. Then I use a 7 inch leader with a size 4 or 1 baitholder. I tie to main line. Then I measure 18 inches at 18 inches I put 1 1/2 inch bobber or I tie a drop shot these are my 3 go to rigs. You fish a drop shot the same way as the rig with baitholder hook tied to main line with a split shot above where leader is tied to main line.

I was watching an old video of yours from a couple of years back. You were in Gadsden, under the old Emma Samson bridge on the Coosa. Sure brings back memories since I was raised there. Left there back in 65 when I was 17. Good fishing in that area, especially when you go east on the Coosa close to Hokes Bluff. Your channel has grown fast in two years from 8,000 to 150,000. Congratulations!

My daddy would have liked your videos. He passed in 2011 at the age of 90. He liked catching all fish, but catfishing was his passion. He liked catching them with a rod and reel, but he was a master at setting and running throw lines, and limb lines. He taught me a lot about reading a river, or any body of water for that matter. We always seined our own crawdads and minnows which is what we mostly baited with. Thank you for the great videos, and God bless you for all you do promoting this great sport!

Those "small" ones he's catching are about the average size you'll probably land channel catfish. Blue cats are A LOT bigger compared to channels. Don't think I have ever caught a blue catfish. But someday I will. Largest channel catfish I've caught so far weighed around 12 lbs. 15 lbs or larger are trophy sized.

I would love to see you do a video where you go out as if you are fishing a tournament. What you would start with, top water, worms, whatever. I would love to see how you fished tournaments.
