Cleaning brass, copper and most likely any non-magnetic metal is not that hard to do. All it takes is enough vinegar to submerge the item and a tablespoon of salt for every cup of vinegar. Heat the vinegar with dissolved salt in it. (1 minute in the microwave.) Then place the metal item in it and let it soak for 10 minutes. (Don’t soak for too long as that can corrode the metal. It has the ability to rust magnetic metals in a very short amount of time that is why this method is not advise for them.) Then rinse and gently scrub the item with OOOO steel wool, a pot scrubber or (as I used) Barkeeper’s Friend. While a magnet can help you narrow down what metal you are dealing with it doesn’t give you an exact answer. Here are the list of metals you maybe dealing with if a magnet does not stick to it:
Non-Magnetic Metals
• Aluminum.
• Brass.
• Bronze.
• Copper.
• Lead.
• Gold.
• Silver.
• Platinum.
