Old video but can I get out there and offer this as a service with zero experience? This doesn’t look too hard at all to accomplish and I know I can give solid results. I need to make income and this looks like a great way to build a reputable business that’s needed. Great tips and instructions here! Thank you.

Are you supposed to do anything to the pre existing grout before you do this? I've seen another video that used a steel brush to remove some of it before re applying? It's my first time doing this so don't want to miss any necessary steps but also want to do it as straightforwardly as possible! Thank you!
@InspireDIY2 жыл бұрын
Hey Lu, yeah the best way to prep the area is to scrape back a minimum of 3mm (1/8”) of the existing with a grout rake (pretty cheap hand tool). Have a look at this vid👍 How to remove epoxy grout from tiled shower - Inspire DIY Kent Thomas kzbin.info/www/bejne/e52yqpetfZmWe6s

Do you have to remove or clean the old grout before regrouting?
@InspireDIY Жыл бұрын
Hey SoWhat, I raked out 1/8” or 3mm (minimum)of the old grout before applying the new stuff. Best of luck with your project 🤙 Kent

I've done it before, but I wanted to know the right way. I see that you didn't remove any old grout. Did you? I didn't remove the old grout when I did it either since there was very little left, and that was the point, to fill up the gaps. But now I want to regrout my shower, but the joints are very fine or narrow to remove any old grout. Should I?

did you remove or just raked a little of the old grout where the walls meet the floor before applying the the white caulk?
@InspireDIY5 ай бұрын
Hey Lalo, just about the same (3-4mm) as the floor tiles👍. I did a shower last month and grouted the corners instead of caulking - let’s see in time which is the better technique. Cheers, Kent

@@InspireDIY Thank you Ken sounds great. BTW forgot to ask, is this grout sanded or unsanded? Just want to make sure I get all of the right materials to avoid back and forth trips to the warehouse store lol.

In your opinion how often should a shower be regrouted? I have a family of 6 so the shower gets used alot throughout the day. Also just fyi, my shower tile was done back in 2018.
@InspireDIY2 ай бұрын
Hey Ashjapan, in theory it’s only needing regrouting for aesthetics eg. If it’s cracked or stained etc as grout isn’t waterproof, it is the membrane underneath it all being intact that really matters. Cheers, Kent

We have a shower that is currently being used , how long should you let it dry out before doing these repairs ? I was worried that regrouting water undetnearh
@InspireDIY Жыл бұрын
Great question David, I left this one for a week as we had a second shower the family could use, the thicker mortar under the tiles may still have been damp as this would take soo long to dry but the tile and grout was dry enough to work on after 1 week (with the theory that it would all dry out over time once regrouted and sealed). Best of luck mate, Kent

I need to do this project "BUT" our tile spacing is smaller than a tile rake will fit into, how do I address that ? We have slight mold in grout lines as well, does all the darkened grout need to be removed prior to re-grouting ?
@InspireDIY2 жыл бұрын
Hey Gary, those cheap hand tools often have provisions to remove one of the 2 rakes making it suit a narrower grout line. And yeah, I would rake out as much as possible and hit it with a chlorine solution (or whatever mould killer you prefer), then a rinse and allow it to dry thoroughly before re-grouting. Best of luck mate👍Kent

is it absolutely necessary to get rid of old grout before you do this or can you just put the new grout on top

Grout saw

Hey Josh, yeah ..what LongParsnip said, a grout saw normally removes the old cement based grout well, remove at least 3mm (1/8”) of the old stuff, make sure it’s really dry before reapplying. Best of luck mate🤞let us know how you get on. Kent

Hey John, yes - great question! You don’t have to completely remove all the old grout, scrape out at least the top 2-3mm with a grout rake which allows the new grout adequate space to get in and hold on How to remove epoxy grout from tiled shower - Inspire DIY Kent Thomas kzbin.info/www/bejne/e52yqpetfZmWe6s 😉 cheers, Kent
