Great vid! As a handyman in tenement buildings, I find that splashing the walls with super hot water softens the grout- making it easier to rake. The mechanical rake is way more efficient than the hand rake, and is less likely to leave deep scratch marks. I only use a hand rake, or a box cutter, for the edges where the machine can't reach. Restoring ceramic tiles is so much classier than painting with epoxy or covering with conga walls.

Can you explain what "covering with conga walls" means? I'm trying to google it and conga drums keep popping up haha

Hey Beeman, how did it go? I'm thinking of doing the same with mine.
@beeman20753 жыл бұрын
@@RubyTwilite Hey Ruby, I ended up regrouting only sections of my shower tiles, about nine sections in different areas. For a layman/novice, I think I did ok, and shower and grout looked okay afterwards. But shower itself is about 30 years old and really needs to be gutted and replaced. I'd had the whole shower (1 and a half tiled walls) regrouted a few months prior for about $600, and only did it myself from a small water leak behind the shower wall discolouring the new grout. Honestly, I didn't really enjoy the experience much, scraping out the old grout on your hands and knees. I was thinking about using a little hand-held electric disc grinding tool to make the grout removal easier, but I was worried about chipping the tile edges and opted for a small scraper. Anyway, thanks for checking and asking :) If you regrout your own shower, let me know likewise how you go?

@@beeman2075 I have an original 1948 bathroom except for the sink which is Ikea with a vanity. 20yrs ago I had the stupid idea of using white floor tiles with dark gray grout because the walls were light gray tile with white grout and I can't stand it now. I thought I'd redo all this and figured I'd you tube it for ideas.

Does one need to use any grout sealant after the new grout has dried up?

After installing your tile, we'd recommend waiting 48-72 hours (until the grout is completely dry) before adding sealant 😊

My kitchen has counter top has missing grout areas do i still have to remove the little grout it has or can i just put some over ?
@maksqwe14 жыл бұрын
From experience it’s always good to deepen the groove to make the grout stick well, because when I first started doing diy and didn’t know any better, I just went over old grout, and it ended up flaking off shortly after and the finish wasn’t great. By removing old grout you’re both giving the grout a deeper area to adhere to and you’re allowing the new grout to bond better because the top layer is usually filled with dirt. It’s also much nicer looking as it’ll all be level and smooth. Long story short, if you want it to last, remove as much as you can and do it from scratch.

Can you use tile adhesive as grout
@bandq2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Martin 😊 We would advise to use these products separately. Tile adhesive is used to stick the tiles to the wall or floor, whereas, grout is the mortar used to fill in the gaps between tiles and create a uniform look, as well as protect the surface. Hope this helps! ⚒
